To the OP.
You should have parked your car on the jobsworth copper's head and asked him if he could read the reg clearly.
Then told him to get lost and try and prevent/detect an actual crime. He may have asked for an explanation of the word "crime" though.0 -
if its a 5 digit then a shorter plate would be fine as it would have to have the correct margins around the letters. only approved flags are allowed as a decoration tho, in the approved section.
This was I was getting at, I can fit a shortened plate as I have a 5 digit reg and plaster watever I want in the vacant space, but put 2 logos of any description on the end or ends of a standard size plate and you/I are criminnals. Total bollox;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I am sure there are lots of laws that many of us think are " bollox " but alas, they are the law.;)0

The law is a bit silly about number plates, but it is there for a good reason. We all see number plates every day so we expect them to conform to a certain layout. If someone commits a crime with a non-standard layout on their number plate then the chances are that no-one will be able to identify the car because our brains are better trained to take in information we already know to understand (such as "normal" number plates).
If I see a non-standard number plate on a car, my usual thought is either "tw*t" or "criminal", depending on the obvious (to me) reason for it being non-standard. Either way, I don't see the point of changing a number plate to something that isn't legal, other than vanity, which brings me back to the tw*t thought.

ANPR Cameras also have no problems in reading mis placed number plates or even plates with screw holes in the incorrect places.Yes but the ANPR camera will not have a prob reading a number plate with a football logo on it, as they allow the blue euro symbol on number plates, so in this instance I would say it is revenue raising
The police use this myth all the time!
Its all about money..0 -

But if the number plates are in compliance with the law, there is no " money " in it for them, so who's fault is it if they get nicked?0 -
If all these idiots who make and use undecipherable plates were made to stop, get out of the car and find their own way home and not drive the car until a new plate was issued. Just think of how long that would take? Reason? Plates like this CANNOT be read by 'number recognition cameras' on board police cars, and if seen by them are sure to be stopped.0

I'm not a tw*t or criminal Julie, just fancied being a little different and liked it. It is hardly any different than other number plates! Just revenue building in my opinion!0 -
As always the police won't bother with serious offenders as they know they'll get two fingers in response, it's just Joe Public who they see as easy pickings that they'll throw their weight around with.
Not quite the right attitude to have. The police deal with incidents as and when they are deployed. Inbetween that time they will clamp down on any offences they see fit. It is up to the individual officer to use their discretion and not the Police as a whole.Married 1st October 2015:heartpuls
