Fined for illegal plates!! Appeal??
Hi all, yes illegal plates. The ones that are very clear to read (was picked up by speed camera last year!). They also have a football logo on. Yes now I know they are illegal. However I hadn't realised, the officer said I should have found out this information. He then stated the fine had gone up to £60 but the only paper work he had was the old ones that said £30, which he scrubbed out with his pen!!. He also took my photo, he didn't ask, just said it would be deleted if I paid the fine. I got no paperwork, he said it would be posted to me as it was on the old forms!! I also didn't sign anything....anybody see any grounds for an appeal or should I just pay and change the plates??
Thanks in advance

I don't think there is a lot of point in appealing, but you could try. The police are cracking down on illegal plates because some of them don't show up on the speed scameras. (Which, of course, is why people have them).I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

A photo of the offending plate (or part of it if you don't want to post the whole thing) will be helpful if you want us to find loopholes.0 -
Sadly not knowing they were illegal is not a defence......
Recommend you change them and pay the fine.Genie

theres enough guidance and warnings that using none standard plates is illegal and the law doesnt recognise ignorance.
pay up and change the plates would be my advice.
but am sure if you want to fight it there will be some loophole you can try to use. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

i got stopped for speeding last year, the eagle eyed officer also noticed my plates were illegal. (wrong spacing, no bs number,etc...) but i didnt get a fine, it was just a hort1,got legal plates sorted took it to MOT centre and they stamped the hort1 and i posted it off to the police hq. no fine though....work permit granted!0

They are cracking down on illegal plates now. Good job too.0

yes i agree they should stamp down on illegal plates, some I have seen are unreadable. Mine are very clear, the officer even said that. However should they still be using out of date paperwork? should I have got some kind of paper work or had to sign for something?
Not got a problem about paying it but if I used the wrong paperwork in my job it wouldn't stand up in court! maybe i'm wrong?0 -

If it wont cost you anything I would appeal, its about time the police cracked down on serious motor related crime, instead of just revenue raising, on minor infringements.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0
