I persoannly think that everyone who has a private reg should be shot or force fed plum tamatoes...

I don't have a problem with private plates as long as they are legal private plates and have not been messed about with ie; digits moved or made to look something other than the original.

The only purpose that any number plate serves is to identify the vehicle after all.

If it wont cost you anything I would appeal, its about time the police cracked down on serious motor related crime, instead of just revenue raising, on minor infringements.

Actually it's not revenue raising in this instance, the problem is that the ANPR cameras have problems with anything but standard plates so if the car was stolen (or became a vehicle of interest to the police) they would not be able to track it through ANPR.

They do all the revenue raising they need through "safety" cameras.....

Yes but the ANPR camera will not have a prob reading a number plate with a football logo on it, as they allow the blue euro symbol on number plates, so in this instance I would say it is revenue raising
ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.
  • Regarding the crossed out £30, some offences have had the penalties raised very recently. Not wearing a seatbelt, for example, is now £60 instead of £30.
Officers have been instructed to use the older paperwork showing the £30 penalty and simply strike it through and put £60 instead.

Agreed in that example, but I wasn't commenting directly on the OP's problem, just giving an explanation as to why so many force's are currently cracking down on plates, it seems to have been a centrally issued directive to do with ANPR rather than cracking down to raise some revenue.

I had some plates made up with the St Georges Cross and ENG which are fully marked in accordance with DVLA rules. I had read they were planning to make them legal - I couldn't find anything saying they had been made legal, but also couldn't find anything saying they were illegal. I had also seen them on numerous other cars, some on dealer made plates, so assumed they must be legal. Later found out the proposals were never carried out so in the hope of keeping on the good side of the law rushed off to Halfords to spend £30 to get a new set of plain plates made up, and what did they offer me? A St Georges cross with ENG on it.

Went searching for examples of people being fined, but came up with an even better news story. They were made legal on the 27th of April 2009 so going to stick the Eng plates on :D I shall drive into Wales and conquer the land! :D

To be honest now that it's legal to have St Georges cross, Saltire and Red Dragon you have more flexibility than you did before and there's no reason to have a football logo. If you want to display some football teams stick them in your window or in decals on the paintwork, you can do this fully legally :)

I think I must make a separate post on this :D

Why ? What's your problem with personal (or should that be persoannal) plates if they are legal ?

Cos they are nothing but hard work - from a dealers point of view!

The plates that are two letters, two numbers are fine - cos they look nice, but the ones where people try to make TR58ACY or BA58RRY - they are the ones who need to be force fed plum tomatoes!

There is one guy I see a lot round here who has C11 EAT on his silver Ferrari 612 - with a screw placed between the 11 to make it into a H...

it may be a minor infringement in this case but im sure career criminals use dodgy plates too so i am all for them being dealt with .

:mad: They don't use dodgy plates, , they will have perfect spacing characters etc, just won't be for that car:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

My plates are illegal, they are only 5 digits in total on a full size plate, BUT, have the logo at either end to balance things up. Where's the dificulty in reading that ? ?

Oh and a police friend of mind say the force is highly in favour of personalised plates, they find them easier to spot and remember:confused:, Make of that what you will;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
