Fined for illegal plates!! Appeal??
Comments
-
If it wont cost you anything I would appeal, its about time the police cracked down on serious motor related crime, instead of just revenue raising, on minor infringements.
it may be a minor infringement in this case but im sure career criminals use dodgy plates too so i am all for them being dealt with .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
As always the police won't bother with serious offenders as they know they'll get two fingers in response, it's just Joe Public who they see as easy pickings that they'll throw their weight around with.LBM 1/8/08 Debt@LBM £7829 (ex£3kOD)

So he didn't issue you with a Fixed Penalty Notice? On what paper did he cross out with the pen if you didn't get any ticket?
A photo of the offending plate (or part of it if you don't want to post the whole thing) will be helpful if you want us to find loopholes.
Hi Dave, he crossed the old price of £30 out on the ticket he was writing on (a pad of them) he said he couldn't give it me as it was the wrong amount. He said I would get a new one in the post with the £60 on.
About the number plate i'm not sure how to get a pic if it on her and don't really want to put my full number on, any suggestions?0 -
Thanks KeithP, nearly missed that one!0

OP - you bought them to attract attention to yourself and your motor. And it worked, didn't it?
An FPN isn't going to be used in evidence, so any minor errors or amendments to it are irrelevant.
It's up to you if you want to fight it, but you'll be up for a larger fine, costs and victim surcharge if you do. I0 -
There is no such thing as a "appeal" against a police FPN you would have to request a court hearing (details on back of FPN), you would receive a summons for mags court, iggnorance is no defence so you may get a higher fine in court than the FPN.0

That's just evil...... How can you feed anyone plum tomatos??? They are food of the devil

At the end of the day if the plates are illegal then I don't see there's a great deal you could do about it. It's like the people with the tinted windows that are way to dark, that's being clamped down on near us big time at the moment. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.0

Re the paperwork, I don't beleive the officer needs to give it to you on the day (it would be silly to have offences go unpunished because say the officer had run out of the correct forms to give to the offender), so tehy can give you a verbal notice, with additional paperwork to follow.
I'm guessing if the change went through recently he's either ended up picking up a spare pad of the old type, or been given it and not thought to check it was the latest one, thus he can't give you it on the day.
I don't honestly think you've got much of a leg to stand on as the rules for number plate logo's are very clear (and I beleive haven't really changed in a while).
If the op is lucky he'll just get a "fix it" notice (vehicle defect notice?) which I beleive is an option the officer has in some cases, as it means he can get the plate changed to a legal one then present proof at his local station to avoid the fine.
One thing that does occur to me, if the op has a personal plate, I beleive the DVLA now have the option to recall it if someone breaks the rules in regards to displaying the registration mark repeatedly, and given the cost of some of those plates it's not something i'd risk.
Which reminds me, I'm going to have to have words with my sister if the police are cracking down on the plates, as she's got a playboy bunny logo on hers, something i'd told her not to get when she bought the plates.0 -

Why ? What's your problem with personal (or should that be persoannal) plates if they are legal ?0
