    No, perfectly legal.

As long as they comply with number plate legislation.;)

are your plates in the correct font?
also, these rules were learnt when i was doing my test years ago, i copied this for your info:

What you must not do with your number plate...

    The law states that:
    • You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
    • Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).
    That means:
    • No stylised letters
    • Don't move the space around
    • Don't misrepresent letters / numbers using screws or fixings
    • Don't misrepresent letters / numbers using squashed or distorted letters
    • No images other than the approved flags (no football emblems, etc)
Full details of the requirements are included in The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001
Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,000

I hope not. My son only has 5. The letters and spacings are legal, but he has a short plate, to fit the 5 letters. Police haven't stopped him - yet!

I do think the police are out to get money just now. My nephew just got fined £60 and got 3 points for moving his phone off his dashboard. He told them it was sliding off the dash and he was just moving it. It wasn't up to his ear or anything. He told them to check his calls as he hadn't used it and no-one had phoned him. They got him with intent to use his phone. What about people who smoke in their cars, or change radio station? Isn't that just as bad as holding a phone? Not defending using a mobile whilst driving though - I hate that!

I know some people can be prats, but I don't understand the spacings rule if the letters are legal and can be read by a speed camera. When the police read out a registration number they don't say 'space' inbetween the letters.

The revenue raised from fixed penalties goes to the Home Office.
Fixed penalties started being issued as it's a cheaper option than taking the offender to court.
I sympathise with your nephew because my son was fined even though he was speaking on his phone via bluetooth. Unfortunately his phone was in his hand.

if its a 5 digit then a shorter plate would be fine as it would have to have the correct margins around the letters. only approved flags are allowed as a decoration tho, in the approved section.
