Well done on finishing the courses...good luck for the results.
Sorry to hear that DH is still off the road..I hope you come up with something soon. It's a pain driving for somebody else if they don't fix their cars in a timely manner.

Morning all, sun is shining and feeling good today!

Had an amazing couple of days with family at the races. Went to Aintree Thurs and Fri and got all glammed up for ladies day. Not often I get chance to get dressed up and you can never be too overdressed for ladies day! Was a very MSE outing as well thanks to Dad. He had a massive winner on the first day so gave me money for bets and drinks. Went out with £100 on Thurs morning and came back with £320.00 on Friday night - yeay!!

OH still off the road so will have to have to budget like mad until he is back to work. We can manage on my income but it means no overpayments on debts which is frustrating.

Hope everyone is well. Off to meet my cousin before she goes back home today and Liverpool will be bouncing with it being National day so should be a nice day. See you all later x x x x

Hi Taxi, Dad would tell you different but he bets big so tends to win big! He saves all year for Aintree and budgets for £50.00 per race (14 races over the 2 days that we go - £700.00) and the one winner alone he picked up 880.00 so he was up on the two days but he uses the theory that if he doesnt win its not money that he cant afford to lose and no matter what happens he sticks to his 50.00 per race budget.

I am having a bit of a contemplative(sp? is it even a word?) afternoon. We have to accept that there is currently nothing we can do about the car apart from keep pestering the garage who own the car to hurry up and get our new one ready. We cannot get finance for a new one and we do not have savings.

So, we can manage on my income for the time being and the good news is that it will make us budget properly and when OH is back to work we will feel like we are really rich!

So I may post an SOA on just my income soon, see what you all think. It is bare basics at the minute and I am trying to get our utility usage down but will take a few months for any savings to filter through. I am also going to get back on the diet bandwagon properly as although I havent put more than 7lbs on the 3 1/2 stone that I have lost is not enough!

    As of today (11/04/10)

    My debt - 5056.80
    OH debt - 15104.82
    Total - 20161.62

    Weight loss - 0/50lbs

Stepping back from MSE has given me a good rest but now it is time to knuckle down for the last push over the next 18 months or so x x x x

So sorry to hear that he's still off work. Are there any other taxi companies he can drive for?

I too am trying to get electric/gas useage down....they have all had their warnings about switching stuff off.

I think it's a great idea to do a new SOA and good luck with the weight loss.

Sorry to read that things are still not settled for you. I hope they get sorted very soon.

Sounds like you had a fab couple of days at the races though - perfect weather for it too!!

Thanks Taxi, none of the companies in this borough settle cars out and there are only a few private people who do. None of them have any available at the minute but have OH's number if any come available.

One thing is for sure, it makes us more determined to become debt free to save for our own car again. This is the first time ever he has had to rely on other people and he never wants to be in this situation again! xxx

Thanks Hypno, it was fab. I got sunburnt as well which I was not expecting! If I ever end up in a position where I have more money than I know what to do with I am going to tour racecourses :rotfl:

Heres a pic of Aintree during the coursewalk that we did, the sky is blue and the buildings in the background are the stands - thats how far I walked in my posh shoes!!

I think it's a very sensible idea to save up and buy one and not to rely on anyone else. It's so awfulwhen it's out of your hands but at least you can get by on your wage so that's one small mercy.
