Out of curiosity, what is the BIN number for the VISA Debit 'Electronic' cards? That BIN number you mentioned is for the 'normal' VISA debit.

The merchants was told in May 2009 about the switch over.

Im not sure if theres a different process when it comes to making payments over the web though

The BIN number is both the same its the chip that has the coding.

  • I have a feeling online it maybe on RBS's end, because im using loads of different sites and none of them will take it right now. I was gonna use my card for matched betting but cant do that if it wont work lol
Im gonna try it at supermarket tomorrow to see if its just not my card, but im guessing like you say its the BIN number, and there must be something different when it comes to online transactoions me thinks.

What do you mean by 30 new numbers? :o

It's strange that the RBS Group debit cards use 4715 as the starting 4 numbers for both VISA debit and VISA debit 'electronic'. Some banks use different 4 number combinations for VISA debit and VISA debit 'electronic'. For example, at Barclays, they have 4759 as normal VISA debit, 4758 for VISA debit 'Electronic'.
  • Just found this lol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_card_number

Interesting (if out of date slightly!).....

RBS Group are using the same combinations I think 4751 XX just changing the 5th & 6th numbers.

I used my electronic natwest card tonight in the train station no bother at all on my reciept the AID number was A0000031010 which is a visa debit AID. I was waiting for the cashier to tell me to naff off as they have big huge signs up saying we dont accept visa electron or solo :D

  • stclair, do you know of any online sites that are accepting the new RBS visa debit so I can try if it works. I just find it hard to believe that even places like Apple store are declining it because its not recognised
