Just a quick question guys , sorry if this has been asked before, but applied for the current account today with rbs and theadvisor told me it hav been agreed in principle and just need to take a form of id to the branch with the signed paperwork .. can any one clarify that what this 'Agreed in principle' means ? Can they still decline me ? he told me the reason they cannot open the account yet is as i need to prove my id !!

Any help would be great ..

First up don't 'thread hijack' its rude and if you do it frequently a moderator might throw you off the boards.

Advice: your best bet is to take two suitable forms of ID to the bank asap and get the account opened (see link below)

Agreed in principle means they probably won't refuse you but the longer you leave actually opening it the greater chance they may change their eligibility criteria and refuse you at a later date / change the T&Cs or special offers the account comes with etc etc
  • I served a customer today with one of these - I got to feel it an' all!

They don't look that bad at all...it actually looks like a "bank card" o.O
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

You probably just need to bring ID and that'll be it, that's what happened when I opened my Co-Op account - they accepted me and then I just had to bring ID.

But how has this got anything to do with RBS Visa Debits?

I Hope so !! Reading somewhere i found that they are notorious for refusing people after the agreement in principle

However am sorry if threw the topic in this forum off topic !!

  • A quick note to those with the new Visa Debit card, I've just noticed on my online statement that purchases online from America (using paypal / direct with the merchant) have had an extra £1.25 charge tacked on by RBS.

The second item is a regular monthly one and I have checked back in my statement and was never charged this fee when it was taken from my solo card.

They always charged me when I used my maestro card abroad. I can't remember it was either 75p or £1.50 to use it.
