  • Ive just recently signed up for a student account from RBS, and card ive received is a brand new visa debit. However ive tried using it online but it wont work. Ive been granted a student overdraft so i have credit. Ive activated it and everything but im just getting declined transactions, is there a certain amount of time i have to wait before i can use the card online?

Nope, it would seem that not all databases have been updated to include the new card numbers and so some transactions are not being processed. I take it it is not being recognised as Visa i.e. telling you you have made an error inputting the card number rather than declining the transaction.
  • Im guessing your right savage as its saying possible reasons why its failing is because of error inputting card number even though its right.

Hopefully, it will sorted before the end of this month.

Fingers crossed that Natwest and Ulster bank won't have the same problems.

I will possibly be abit shakey for the first few weeks/months as the BIN number 4751 75 has been newly created so it may not be in the retailers databases. Natwest & Ulster bank customers will have the same problem.

RBS Group did communicate this to merchants but im guessing they havent taken any notice of it.

I thought updates to databases are done asap...

Out of curiosity, what is the BIN number for the VISA Debit 'Electronic' cards? That BIN number you mentioned is for the 'normal' VISA debit.

I beleive they are both the same, it is the code on the chip and mag stripe that tell the terminal to call for authorisation.
