A quick note to those with the new Visa Debit card, I've just noticed on my online statement that purchases online from America (using paypal / direct with the merchant) have had an extra £1.25 charge tacked on by RBS.

The second item is a regular monthly one and I have checked back in my statement and was never charged this fee when it was taken from my solo card.
Going to query this in the morning with RBS as I was also charged.
I added my Visa Debit to my Paypal account, where as normal they deducted £1 to verify the card is mine, which will later be refunded but on top of that RBS have charged me £1.25. Now I know it isnt an amount to cry about but still.....0 -

I added a few months ago my visa debit from Halifax and wasn't charged anything but the 1 quid deposit they take.
Paypal can charge your card either in your own currency or in the currency used by the merchant. Choose your own currency and it should attract no charges from your bank.
At least this is the way it has worked for me.
Another way is to register your bank account and pay by direct debit.0 -
I currently have s 'Step Account' with a solo card. On the solo card it states 'Step Account' below my name. I have had two cards with it on and 2 without it on, it seems to be someones choice as to if it go's on the card or not. Does anyone know if I will have to have it on the visa card that replaces the solo card. thanks0

Anyone having problems using their Visa Debit?
In store, say using chip & pin, it's fine but when I've tried to use it online to pay my Barclaycard or Capital One Classic, it doesn't recognise the card.
I queried it with RBS but they nonethewiser too.
