Lol! I think they'd rather you signed up via their link.

If your just using the thing to browse it might be ok, but if you need to use VPN or FTP dont touch it with a long pole.
    Huh???? .

Apart from the name, its the best I've come across, customer service is spot on and they know their stuff, they just don't have any bundles that I know off, but worth it for the broadband service. The fact that they dont have bundles is maybe why they are so good, they specialise.
No complaints in 10 years from me. Had one problem when trying to connect from another country, they had routing problems, tech guy gave me a back door pass while they fixed the problem, so i could still get on, cant imagine many doing that, ESPECIALLY TALK TALK, that might be classed as "customer service"

    what bits unclear?

    A) This site is making money of each person that signs up through their link.
    B) Because they are throttling ports there are lots of reistrictions on what you can do, so if you use p2p networks, ftp, vpn basically anything other than browsing and email then you should avoid this deal.

Its far too early to suggest for people to get it or that it is any good.

Well my line is currently with NTL (so I'm used to a total lack of support ;)). When I check for availability I get a message saying I can't use TalkTalk as I need to be with BT. Which is fair enough. But they don't tell me whether the exchange is unbundled or not - and I'm not going to change to BT if I still can't then change to TT!
Is there anywhere else I can find this out?

Try inputting a neighbour/friend phone number who is with BT (using the same exchange) and postcode and see if your exchange is enabled.

Unfortunately my exchange is not enabled so I would have to pay the £10 monthly which makes it unfeasible or I would have gone for their offer.

I've been with TalkTalk for over 2 years now on their various packages, and I would strongly recommend that anyone who is thinking about going with them weigh up the pros and cons of bad customer service versus a cheap price. Until very recently I have been very happy with them and their good deals, but the amount of problems I am having at the moment really is making me wonder if the cheap cost is worth the hassle.

I had heard reports about bad customer service before, but never took much notice, until this last week, when it finally hit me :(

I'm not saying don't go with them, just make sure you take everything into consideration.

On A) Martins' always been honest that the revenue click throughs don't offer his recommendations - he usually suggests the best money-saving option.:j

On B) You're probably right, but I was being too dozy.:D

I wasn't recommending TT but pointing out that people who have decided to sign up could benefit from cash back.:money:

Won't MSE.com still get revenue for the clickthrough anyway? If so then get the best of both worlds by using cashback site and do a clickthrough on here too?

I always try to use links put up here by Martin or any of the other person from the MSE team as i like this site being ad free and available to come and seek out money making/saving tips anytime.. but i do also need to try and save some money up for the new house by using quidco and the like, so have been using quidco for main sign ups and MSE for kelkoo/quidco links etc.

I'm hoping that my contribution helps, even if it's just a little bit. :)

    I've signed up with it.

I read about the poor service but its a risk worth taking as it'll cut my monthly phone and broadband bill in half. BT are hardly known for their good service and most ISP's aren't too hot on it. Its very rare I've ever had to contact either and as a seasoned complainer I can usually sort things out. As for the cost of calls to tech support etc - I'll ring them on my works mobile :-)

On the 18 month contract - it sounds a long time but I've been with my current ISP for years and BT since I first bought a house. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and it'll not be a problem. Its difficult to see many other offers beating in over the next 18 months, so i am not too worried about that.
    Nice to save.

Hi I have a question for anyone who can help me. I am a talktalk customer already. I was with tele2 and they took them over. My broadband is with madasafish and the contract runs out in november. Is it worth me leaving talktalk to avoid being charged the 29.99 broadband connection fee. I see little point in doing this if I have to stay with madasafish till the contract runs out. I can always comeback to them later or hopefully by then someone else would be doing a better deal that doesnt tie you in for 18months!
  • Hi Martin

You say that Caller Display is free with BT, but I checked my bill from them (line rental only), and they charge 32.99 for the Hour Plan line rental and a separate £5.25 for Caller Display, which works out at £1.75 per month.

Have I missed a trick here and am paying too much for my line rental?
