I wanna learn how to run !

Anthony MK I would have said 3 weeks ago I am about the unfitest I have ever been and 2 stone overweight. (If I could get off one stone I would be very happy)
I started running after realising that I cannot diet anymore and now my baby is one I haven't got any excuse to not try and get fit.
I worked out that unlike a gym which for me would take up two hours of my day ( getting there dressed and getting back home again) running meant I can get out the door run for 16 min and then back home again. And if I couldn't get a baby sitter then I can push her in her pram so basically no excuses.
I am now in week 3 and I can't believe it but I actually enjoy running.
I am following this plan religiously and I can tell I am getting fitter everytime I do it. Just when you think you can't make it you do.
Definatly have a go a few people are doing it at my work too and surprisingly enough they are all sticking to it aswell
Start tomorow and tell us how you get on.0 -
Hi Anthony. Well done on the weight loss - that's fab.
I am overweight and unfit and now over 40.........a close friend passed away a few months ago and it really flicked a little switch in my brain and I have made a choice to change my lifestyle. I have tried before but this is the first time I seem to be enjoying it and hopefully, I will continue to do so.
And I need all the encouragement I can get so if this becomes a thread on staying fit the mse cheap way I will be well pleased. So please join us....I don't know what to say about cycling as I hate bikes LOL I would say though that if you find an exercise you like you are part way there. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
I am going to do it!! starting as soon as I can find some decent, cheap (this is mse after all) and wide running shoes, my last pair were too tight at the sides and stopped me attending my gym sessions.
Any suggestions?0 -
Hi guys,
Just popped back in after making an early contribution to this thread and its great to see those that have started training regularly sticking to it!!!!
As previosuly mentioned its the first couple of sessions that hurt but after a few more you will actually start to enjoy it. And the next thing you know you will setting yourself new challenges and targets!!!
Applause all round!!!

Not read all the thread but if you live in st albans area i would love to start running /tennis not that good at both but want to shift the pounds.
got a new tenis racket for my bday, i weigh 12 stone so do get oput of puff but when i get ninto tennis i do get into it.
i do play with OH on his days off, but would love to play every day for 3/4 hour as it is such fun and the courts are free here and hardly anyone else plays during the day...
My neighbour and friends all look after their kids in the day so any offers and doubles when my OH is off that would show him with all my practice....0 -

As for which make...... I find that ASICS are probaly the best all round shoes as they give very good support and are generous with their fitting.0 -
Thanks for that itsbeef :O) The best thing I can say about this plan is that I have never hurt doing it! I have been exhasuted and bewildered and probably look like a madwoman but I haven't had any pain.
And Anthony I say try on loads of proper running shoes if you plan to run. I went one day on my old trainers and my feet felt wrong. With my new trainers they feel perfect but it took me trying on loads (and getting v odd looks as I pranced around the aisles of JJB) to find a pair that felt just right.
I believe some shops video you running and help find a pair to match your stride or some such technical thing. I may do that when I feel more confident. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
Hows everyone getting on.. I am mid week 3 and going strong.
Even though I spent the whole of yesterday in A&E with middle daughter still managed to make up for yesterdays missed run by doing it today.
Also have managed to lose 3lb's so starting to show a bit of weight loss too0 -
Hi trinnylilac
Hope you daughter is ok. They can be so much fun and love but so much worry.
Well done on the weight loss - don't forget to measure as well, it is lovely watching the inches fall off.
I am just sitting here trying to get myself cooled down enough to shower and I have been back 20 minutes. It was my week 5 Friday run and I am exhausted...it was my hardest run ever, I don't know if walking on Wednesday made today harder? And I don't know how I will ever manage week 6 when it jumps to 2 minute runs! I can't think about it yet :O) But I had real problems regulating my breathing today and my feet felt sore. Will have a nice long soak tonight.
But of the 4 others I know who were trying the plan, only 2 are still going. One didn't like it and can't make the time; the other blistered her toes and ended up with an infected pinkie - her foot is a right mess :O(
I am determined I will do the 10 week plan....
Still trying to find the book Running Made Easy but it doesn't look like it has been reprinted yet.
Thanks so much for starting this thread! The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
Blimey , your up early and you are doing brilliantly.
I finished work at 4.30 today came back fed the kids and have just finished todays run.
It was really lovely as I normally run alongside the thames and due to all the rain and thunder storms earlier on there was lots of low lying fog. Looked very earie like something from a Sherlock Holmes novel anyway while on this run today the strangest thing happened.
Where normally I pratically colapse after the minute run today I decided on the last run to keep on going and I made it home  . Basically running about 5 mins . It felt weird in the fact nothing hurt and I couldn't really feel my legs.
Perhaps its my gardian angel giving me a helping hand whatever is going on I am very pleased with my progress
