Hi
I'm interested in this thread, along a similar line (but I don't want to hijack the thread):: can anyone recommend a treadmill for homeuse?
Does anyone know a company that allows you to try before buying?
Or, a company that rents treadmills out?
I used to use one for walking at a gym, but have cancelled the membership since returning to work and now having no time to go and use it properly but would love to use the odd 30 minutes etc to walk. Or, maybe, even build up to running.
Cheers, for any suggestions or help offered,
Jays0 -
Well today I did my first run after getting my new pair of trainers yesterday. It nearly killed me but I feel really pleased that I did it, Next one scheduled for Wednesday .
Has anyone else started.0 -
Hi, I've been running for just over a year, and the best advice I can give (apart from the trainers) is go with a friend.
My friend and I go out 2 - 3 times a week and you really don't notice the miles - especially if you keep the pace so you can talk all the way around.
We usually do between 3 - 5 miles a time but it depends on the weather, our moods, family committments etc.
You have great runs and really bad ones where you struggle to do a mile or two. Above all you keep going so as not to let your buddy down and motivate each other. There are many times I would have given up had I been by myself.
I haven't noticed any huge weight loss, but the really liberating thing is I eat WHATEVER i like (choc, crisps, cakes bear and lots!!) and don't put weight on so I guess it must be doing some good.
Hope this helps - any more advise give me a shout.0 -

Thanks for posting again, trinnylilac - I'm ashamed to say that I made a fantastic chart to monitor my progress, but have managed to find something 'vital' that needed to be done each time I was supposed to start.... I wish I had someone to run with to help motivate me!!
Still, maybe I can get motivation by posting here.
I WILL run tonight... I WILL run tonight... I WILL run tonight...0 -
Yes you must , I have my second one tonight . A few people at my work are doing it too so I feel I can't show myself up by not doing it.
For anyone else the first week is
WEEK 1- Mon- (Run 60 sec, walk 3 minutes) x 3- total 16 mins
Tues- Rest
Wed- (Run 60 sec, walk 3 mins) x3- total 16 mins.
Thurs- Rest.
Fri- (Run 60 sec, walk 3 mins) x3- total 16 mins.
Sat- Rest
Sun- 30 min brisk walk.0 -

Trinnylilac I meant to post earlier but forgot!
I am doing the Zest 10 week plan and I am mid way thru week 3 and loving it!
I am a few stone overweight and have never run before - I always wanted to run but felt too fat/scared/unfit/embaressed etecetc. This year I am doing the Race for Life in July and I have promised myself I will learn to run.
Day 1 Week One I couldn't do the full first 60 secs, I only managed about 30 secs before I thought I would collapse. I now do my run in the morning nice and early before my family's day begins - I actually set my clock for an hour earlier and hit the ground while every else is sleeping. And I can't belive I am about to type this but - I am loving it! I did my 21 minues today and was exhausted but loved it.
And an added bonus - I am sleeping far better than ever. I have been going to bed earlier than usual but sleeping thru (which I hardly ever do) and I have not felt as fatigued during the day.
So keep up the good work!! If you need a Zest buddy I am usually lurking around - feel free to PM me. I will probably need the encouragement come Week 5 which looks like it starts getting a bit tougher :O)
And annie-c --perhaps you could try mornings? I found every excuse not to exercise in the evening but mornings work great and I start the day full of energy. The booklet suggests planning your running ahead of time at the beginning of the week - far less likely to miss them if they are prescheduled. Week 1 I did in th evenings and I found it much harder both physically and mentally! The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
I bought the Running Made Easy book a while ago and am now on week 4. I found the first few times really tough but it is getting easier now, I am definitely improving. The way it builds up gradually really helps build your confidence. Hopefully I can keep it up!
The book also has training plans for 10km, a half marathon and a full marathon, not sure I will need all of those!0 -
