Just back from my first `run` after hurting my calf. Walked fast for 25 mins, then ran slowly for 3 mins and then another 17 mins walking. Calf held up ok, so I`ll add a min or so each day until back to normal.

I want to take up running and havent got a clue where to start, I've heard people so that if you start running in the wrong shoes or choose concrete, street paths etc you can do some serious damage to your kness ankles etc.

That is true but if you are only running 5 or 6 miles at a time I don't think you will have a problem. I don't class myself as a heavy runner but I have run over 20 miles a week on the road for months at a time and have never suffered knee or ankle problems.

Advice please! My shins are currently really hurting when I run! Like having cramp! Has anyone else suffered from this? and/or know how to stop it?

Are you running on a hard surface and with good trainers? are you resting in between runs?

Iknow the pains u mean. sometimes If i try to powerwalk to the car after work which is slightly uphill, mine hurt.

I trained for 5k and 8k race last year and didn't get it. Doing the same surface of running (tarmac) but it might be cause my trainers have now had it??? Yes I've had it too walking fast uphill too!

I used to get that pain occassionally as well. I did read somewhere you are supposed to get your trainers replaced after so many miles. Perhaps it may be worth a trip to a specialist shop - they can check your gait and perhaps offer some advice.

Have you had a look on runnersworld health pages? They are pretty helpful.

And well done for sticking with it!

Got mine too - it is sweet isn't it?

How are all the injured? My leg and side feel much better so we may do 1 mile on Sunday to try and get motivated again. I just bought a new running belt so I must get back at it!

    Hope everyone is well soon.

Claudie do you still have the link for this??
