For Kido - How long was it before you could run again?. I did the same to my calf about 6 weeks ago, and still cannot run. I can walk fine, except stairs, and can manage a fair pace, but as soon as I try to run, the pain in my calf comes back.
I think I`ll get the cycle out of the shed and see if I can exercise that way for a while.

I think it was about 3 months before I was completely fit again. Having said that though I do heel slowly thank the the ME.

eek! im number 43 in my race. isnt it scary to think there will be that many other people potentially getting in your way k9?

looking for some advice on running trainers. up to now ive just been running in my sketchers, which i know is naughty, so ive been looking to get running trainers. the pair i really liked they didnt have in my size  im quite surprised by how padded trainers feel in gerenal though compared to what im used to. feels like there's more padding than trainer on some of them (on the top/sides of the foot now, not underneath). is this normal?

and any hints on what to look for in a pair of running trainers?

You need to go to a proper running shop, or sports shop. Luckily my friend works in one, so I got a massive discount and the right kind of shoes. They will look at the way you walk, and the shape of your feet and decide for you essentially. I have collapsed arches (or whatever it is), so I have absolutely massive heels; it will be different for everyone.

another good session in the gym tonight, feel absolutely cream crackered now :D

need some more advice (can you tell im a novice?!)...

we are (very) loosely following the RFL plan (which is basically the couch potato to 5k in 6 week plan). my running partner jen seems to find it easier to add 30 seconds or so to her running times at the start, then revert to her normal running times for the later repititions, where as i find it easier to keep to the same pattern, but add extra reps on at the end. do our preferences merely come down to our differing levels of fitness? is it a stamina/endurance thing? i really dont think i could manage anything more than 2 mins at the mo (least of all on anything after my first two reps).

managed 27 mins on the treadmill tonight, of which 11 were running (5 reps of 2 minutes and one rep of 1), 6 were warming up/down, and the others rest periods in between running reps. covered 3km in all, which suggests i should finish the race for life course within the hour (hopefully within 40 mins come the end of june).

anyway, im waffling now when i should be showering and going to bed.

any comments/advice are, as always, gratefully received :j

I want to take up running and havent got a clue where to start, I've heard people so that if you start running in the wrong shoes or choose concrete, street paths etc you can do some serious damage to your kness ankles etc.
I guess there are people on here that do it, whats the best way to start bearing in mind the only form of excercise day to day is a 15min walk to the train station.

My aim is to lose some weight, make myself leaner, I dont want to build up huge muscles, currently weigh 15 and half stone and I'm 6ft 1 inch tall.

    Hi stolt,

I've merged your thread with the original how to run thread to keep all the suggestions together.
