Oh and we found this as well. They are starting a local club soon so myself and a friend may join.

I am not coping well with the cold and wet mornings and I don't like running at night alone in the dark. I have taken the plunge and visited the gym and will join at the end of the month when they have a No Joining Fee offer on (money saving and all). It will be interesting to see my times on a treadmill as I have never run on a tread before, only fast walked. Now that I am learning to run hopefully I won't be afraid of falling off!
I'd do that but for the fact they always put mirrors in front of the treadmill, the last thing I want to do is see my bits wobble and my face look like a beetroot!:eek:0 -

Ah the trick is to find a gym with a telly and watch Corrie instead LOLThe smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
What distances are people doing so far and whats your Timings, interested to compare to mine0

I am still the slowest jog in the west LOL
I tend to jog for 3 or 4 minutes then walk for one or two. I haven't really done a lot over the last few weeks for one reason or another but my last good run then was about 8km in an hour. There is a lake nearby and myself and a friend try to do one lap of 4km in about 30 minutes - if we feel really good we do 2 laps. When I go out on my own I tend to go for time not distance as I just run around the estate for 30 or 40 minutes the best I can. I really need to get back to a proper structure - I found it far easier when we followed the plan religiously.
Another friend of mine runs a bit more regularly than me and tends to do 5 km in about 30 minutes - a colleague is a "proper" everyday I will run or die kind of runner and her usual 5km time is 22 minutes. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
So you did almost 5miles in an hour. if I somehow managed to double my distance and keep to the same pace id take just under the hour, so probably be quite similar. Lastcouple times ive been out have felt like im actually running and not jogging. just disappointed when the time wasnt better lol.
Ive got quite a way to go before I can do 5km in 30mins, thats just over 3miles.
Im looking at doing my 2.4miles again tomorrow and running it quicker than my previous 22minutes. I dont take watch out with me, maybe I should so I can either pace myself or run faster on the second half.
Then on my Next Run concentrate on running the 2.4miles and a little extra, will need to run it slower so that I can manage it for the first time and gradually try to improve my time.
I started my running using the structure of 5mins run then walk, etc skipped a few stages tho and went for higher. Maybe after I do my 2.4 miles without stopping I should rest for a couple of minutes and then try running a little bit further. My breathing seems to recover quite quickly once Ive got home.0 -
lee - your 2.4 miles in 22 mins is 9min 10 sec per mile. Keep that up for another 3/4mile and you will be doing 5k in just under 28min 30. Try and find a fairly flat 5k race,do a bit of speed work in the build-up time, and the adrenaline on race day will take you the extra distance.
I`ll bet you could go sub 27mins in the New Year. Then you`ll be hooked. Get your London Marathon application in now.0 -
Now you say that it sounds more achievable.
Yeah thats a good idea I do think a bit of flat would be beneficial infact Id probs run much better on the flat rather than pacing myself for the ups n downs.. The run I do now has a bit of an incline & then I turn around and come back so another slight up n down0 -
That sounds like very good advice. When we did a 10km run it turned out to be far more difficult than we ever imagined as it was multi terrain with a few very steep hills. Our lake we run by is a flat surface and I always feel great when we go there as we can usually achieve good times for us while still getting a fairly good work out.
I think you're doing great. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
