Thanks in my wellies - I understand completely what you mean about the wrong shape, wrong build etc. I am undertall and about 3 stone overweight and I am certainly not built to run but I am trying it with a lot of encouragement from friends both real and cyber.
A friend of mine is what I call a real runner and when I first started learning to run (I still don't consider myself anything like a runner despite trying to jog a few times a week) I was so embaressed to even tell her I was running and I wouldn't dream of jogging in her dust she is so good but she has repeatedly and quite kindly given me loads of encouragement - we all have to start somewhere. If you even have a smidge of wanting to run there is an abundance of encouragement here.
And welcome ahll - did you get started? Did you love it?
My SD has asked if I would teach her to run - I was so pleased. I am starting the 10 week Zest plan again next week with her..if anyone fancies starting next week perhaps we could start another thread. I know I really should, since the last one fell by the wayside. I do walk a couple of miles each day and 8-12 on Sundays, but it's not really proper cardiovascular exercise.

Yes we all managed to do the excercise we had set out to do. We have a long way to go yet but as I did it with my friend, 2 of my sisters and my 2 nices it was a bit of a family thing as well as a social event.
We are following a program off this link and did 1 min jog then 3 mins walk X 4.
Can anyone tell me when we do the walking bit are we suppose to do it fast (like power walking) or are suppose to do it quite slow to recover from the minutes running ? It wasn't clear to me in the instructions !"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -

Hi K9
I have the 10km plan from Running Made Easy - I will see if I can scan it and PM it for you.
Haven't been running at all this week; had a little try yesterday but my calves were crying! Am starting the 5km plam again tomorrow in a hope to get my SD running with me. I'll let you know how we get on.The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
I am going to try and start running again. I need to or stop eating.
Havent done any Running for about 4months and then it was only 3miles. Just gonna wait for my tight hamstring to go away
Does anyone have any Tips for Stretches etc to do before a Run?
or even before running is planned, to help the muscles & avoid pulling anything0 -
:T I'm back in!
Just started back after (ahem a couple of months laziness....) RFL in june.
Back doing 4 min runs now, been told of a 10 k run in April that i's like to go for but I'm not sure whether we'll do it or not. The thing is I hated every minute of the RFL, I knew I could run the distance but on the day just couldn't manage it and walked quite a bit (very hot as well). Anyway it's something to aim for.
Glad so many people are in again!:j
PS K9cuddles found your sig on another running site - how could you!!!
PPS How do you all find the races to enter?0 -
Im up to to 2.4miles without stops.today it took me 22minutes. its not flat tho its up and down.
I built this up over 4 or 5runs, then had a week off, ooops but been another 4times including today. Im trying to push myself to do the 2.4miles quicker, tis difficult when the 2nd half of the run has an incline. then I will just increase the distance.
I just hope I feel a difference of being able to run quicker & further, easier.
I try to run oneday, have one day off, may try n give myself 2days rest see if that improves my performance much0 -
That is brilliant! Well done to you both.
I have been struggling as I had an asthma attack followed by a chest infection and I have been wallowing in self-pity! Just atthe tail end of the chest infection and plan to hit the road again next week.
Our next run is a 6km Santa Fun Run in London on 9 Dec. We find ours via Runners World website.
I am thinking of taking my running indoors for the winter and joining the local leisure centre. I am not coping well with the cold and wet mornings and I don't like running at night alone in the dark. I have taken the plunge and visited the gym and will join at the end of the month when they have a No Joining Fee offer on (money saving and all). It will be interesting to see my times on a treadmill as I have never run on a tread before, only fast walked. Now that I am learning to run hopefully I won't be afraid of falling off!The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0
