I presume you now have your preferences set to UK bidders only. :rolleyes:0 -

The ad stated UK bidders only yet the idiot still bid and won two items, then apologised stating he hadn't read the ad properly..
Maybe you should learn to set your seller preferences. If you havent he was within his rights to bid. You got yourself into that situation because of that. So no one elses fault but your own0 -
AS an illustration about how little this all matters in the long run and how we don't influence things on here most of my auctions charge actual stamp cost plus about 5-20p extra for envelopes packing etc. Yet according to my expanded seller dashboard in the past 30 days I have been left a 1 or 2 * for postage..so did I have a muppet buyer or was my few pence extra to cover an envelope excessive? I do not consider the cost of providing an envelope excessive, but someone obviously did.
In case you hadn't noticed my latest campaign is to get everyone to check their expanded seller dashboards, it is quite frightening.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You trying to scare everyone?
I like a bit of panic and mayhem. Actually though if the tighteneing of the actual stars left requirements are going to impact on the buyer disatisfaction scores then a 1 or 2 * rating left by one individual on a small seller might push that seller into the danger zone for suspension. Obviously for sellers who have a higher turnover of feedback that won't matter.
My low star was a shock (I have another on a different account for item as described) as I have had nothing but excellent feedback and my stars tend to hover at 4.8 or 4.9 most of the time.

I've not read all the replies, but I saw a few good points.
However, my point is this:- irrespective of whether you have over-charged or not, everybody knew what you were charging before they bid. End of story.

I'm quite happy to take advantage of those auctions with high postage and if the final price is good then I am in no way shape or form going to consider that the seller has ripped me off. I find it utterly mad. If you win an auction for 99p (for example) on an item that normally goes for £5 or £10, then have the sheer gall to retroactively question the seller on the postage you are pathetic. People who do it should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.
Bidding on these items (as I sometimes do) is kind of taking advantage in the first place as you know a lot of the competition will have been put off. Demanding a refund on the postage after the fact is tantamount to scamming, and is disgraceful behaviour.
That said, it is somewhat naieve of the sellers who price their postage too high, as there will always be someone, somewhere that's going to be a little !!!!! about it. I keep my prices as close to the Royal Mail weight guidelines as possible with maybe 10 or 20p max for packaging and write the rest of the costs off on the item price. I've found it tends to be a better strategy, despite obviously paying more fees.0 -
It's all about a buyers preception of "fair".
A 100% mark up on postage will never be deemed as fair and sellers, myself included, face the consequences of inflated prices.
Someone makes a quid on postage then most people will be fine. Make a few quid and most people will feel ripped off.Terms & Conditions Apply0 -
As a buyer in the main, I do wish sellers would stop overcharging on p&p full stop, yes I accept that you need to recover your costs and you are not a charity etc, but to me, part of good customer service is being open and honest and showing transparency in what you are charging, this makes the buyer feel that the seller is trustworthy.
I would much rather pay £10 for something with the correct p&p added than £5 for the item and overcharged on the p&p, yes I know it may add up to the same amount but that is not the point, it's all about how honest you think your seller is being.
Many times I have bought items and not known if the p&p was fair until I received the item, if it wasn't important then ebay would not ask buyers to rate their sellers on p&p.
I also don't think sellers should charge for time/petrol/wear and tear to footwear walking to post office/earnings lost whilst going to post office etc etc a buyer is paying for postage and packaging, end of, any other fees etc sellers should incorporate into their listing prices, all other businesses that sell over the internet do not try to make money out of their customers through p&p costs.
I have sold items occasionally and never overcharge on p&p, I certainly wouldn't dream of incorporating time and money spent on getting to the post office etc etc into the postage and packing price!, if sellers aren't happy with the auction value then they shouldn't sell on auction! the whole point of this was for buyers to hopefully win items at a good price, auctions are supposed to be a bit of a gamble for the buyer and seller, if something doesn't make the price you wanted then tough, but don't try to rip the buyer off in the p&pAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -

if a buyer is clearly over charging the p+p in return for dropping his sale price in order to avoid some ebay fees most people would argue that is transparent.
If the seller offers you free postage it's not really free it's included in the price, so you don't know when buying exactly what he is charging for the item and what he has added to sale price for postage and ebay fees which will be added or indeed for his time, shoe leather etc, so how's that transparent exactly?
i think what your really saying is you'd just rather not know?0
