    thanks cyril.

Im not a power seller or what not you guys are am just selling things we dont need to reclaim monies back. Am not an expert by any means and in all honesty I based my postage off another ebay user exactly... as i didnt have a weighing scales... so figured it was accurate.. obviously he includes a premium in his price too.

Soolin you can't keep entering threads, slating people for what you think is excessive p+p and then countering any difference of opinion to you with "It won't do you any good trying to justify it to me".
i have heard you use this line several times recently.

Believe it or not Soolin you do not represent the majority opinion of great Britain and if your going to express strong views and opinions of your own be prepared to hear a few opinions of others too.

    .

I don't think it hurts at all to point out that we, the people on this forum don't matter..we are not leaving feedback here. All that matters is what buyers think.

I am happy that you feel OP is justified in his stance and yes we have a thread so it can be discussed from a theoretical point of view and we are all free to join in, even me believe it or not. However don't pretend that justifying it to us on here actually helps..can anyone here physically prevent poor feedback being left for the OP?

What about if everyone that posted said that the OP was completely justified, would that somehow prevent the buyer leaving poor feedback if he felt otherwise?

I am entitled to an opinion as is anyone on here, lets just not forget that our opinions don't actually make one jot of difference.

Well you weren't that far out, to be honest i think it says more about the buyer than you that they are persisting with this nonsense over £1 but unfortunately that is what ebay is like these days, if someone sees your postage was over charged by £1 they think it is their right to demand £5 back with the threat of a neg.

good old ebay, taking away sellers right to leave a neg because sellers were blackmailing buyers into withdrawing negatives, they think they have solved one problem then

    They create another!

    Fair point.
As far as the buyer in this case goes though, who cares what they think, they agreed to a price and are now trying to demand money off, that makes them a feedback blackmailer, if they feel so strongly return the item and ask for a refund, once someone utters those fateful words "or else i'll leave negative feedback" or words to that effect they become a scammer no one should give into scammers as it is this that encourages them to go on scamming.

99% of people on ebay are decent and honest therefore you are unlikely to encounter enough scammers to seriously damage your account, therefore i'd rather take the neg and report the feedback extortion than give in to such demands.
  • What people should also now understand is when the new selling reg's kick in, low scoring DSRs will seriously screw you up.

Neg's are now almost an irrlevance.

People don't like to feel ripped off and 100% mark up on postage will do that to most.

Yes we all know that there are other costs incurred but buyers don't give a fat rat's !!!! about them.

It's a tightrope that all us sellers face and it's going to get even worse come October.

Thats just asking for trouble! But didnt you in your original post break down the postage costs and state what cost what? How were you able to do this if you based your postage on someone elses?
    Postage = £2.80
    Paypal Fee on £5.19 = ~£0.20
Envelope Cost = 50p-80p (depending on size)
Petrol Cost to drive to Post office 5 miles away = 20p

So hard costs come to ~£4.00 to £4.30. This doesn't take into account any cost for my own time.

So no matter what you decided that that postage was justified. Now it seems like you are trying to make excuses ' I based my postage off another ebay user'. It doesnt really matter I dont really care what excuses you wish to come up with. If I have seriously overcharged someone for postage (due to miscalculation) I refund when I get back from the PO. this is good customer service. It keeps my feedback and DSRs high and customers returning. You may be able to justify the costs but if you get that negative it will effect your selling with such a low feedback score.

The majority of people who have replied to this thread have stated that your costs are high (except Cyril who disagrees for the sake of it). Maybe you should listen? But in the long run your customers or lack of will make the final choice.

P&P (or S&H) are supposed to cover reasonable costs, so if you are making a profit on them then you are diddling your customer.
Rounding things up the the nearest quid is alright, but adding a markup isn't.
If you knowingly over-charged them then you really should put things right.

You may not agree but if I was your buyer I would leave you a negative based on your reply; I do not expect to pay for paypal fees, petrol cost and your time??? etc. I (personally) would pay up to a £1 (and that may include whatever, even petrol costs but as I wouldn't know I wouldn't care) more then actual postage cost and although I would not send an email in such abusive tone, I would send one and expect you to refund some of the money.

Surely postage costs i.e Royal mail costs are inclusive of labour and time costs of the post office , sorting office mail van etc. fuel etc. - so an Ebay seller `s time and labour, packaging should be part of the equation surely?

If I see something on Ebay I really would like but the postage costs make it too much - I don`t buy - simple as - no point !!!!!ing about it after would - if I sold something and charged £3 delivery / postage - then dropped it off personally as I was in the area anyway for work purposes - would that give the buyer the right to say they shouldnt have to pay any costs as it cost me nothing to deliver ?

I'd just like to put my two penneth forward,

Ebay for a start is an absolute sham. Buyers blackmailing sellers buy using the negative feedback thing. Feedback was totally discredited the day you couldn't leave negative feedback for buyers, which is how this @rse is trying to get one over on neas.

I had the same experience a few months ago with a French bidder. The ad stated UK bidders only yet the idiot still bid and won two items, then apologised stating he hadn't read the ad properly. No dramas I thought. So I estimated postage costs and added a bit on as a safety margin having never posted to France before. He gets the goods then waits two months before saying the postage was too high. He never asks for a refund but instead leaves negative feedback.

I never leave feedback now unless the other party leaves it first. That way it's harder to blackmail.
