Negative Feedback Threat

Hi all,

Just received the following:
Hi
I have just recieved the package but am not happy that you overcharged me on postage. I can see on the packet you only paid 2.80 postage and I paid you 5.18.
Get back to me asap before I leave feedback.

I sent the following back:
Thanks for the reply and threat of negative feedback.

Lets discuss this without threatening behaviour shall we?

Postage and packaging (note packaging) costs do are estimates across multiple items and may be slightly off. However I can break down the following for your '5.19'

Postage = £2.80
Paypal Fee on £5.19 = ~£0.20
Envelope Cost = 50p-80p (depending on size)
Petrol Cost to drive to Post office 5 miles away = 20p

So hard costs come to ~£4.00 to £4.30. This doesn't take into account any cost for my own time.

I am slightly dissapointed that you complain after agreeing and paying for the goods and don't like to be threatened for the sake of 1 pound.

While I understand the cost on the item does not tally up with what you paid.. you conveniently forget the other expenses involved with posting and packaging an item.

I guess am gonna get a negative now, I guestimated the overseas packaging but put in a 'margin' factor of about 1 pound extra because alot of overseas packages i've sent go missing. Now when i dont get paypal claimed I get threatened with a negative over a pound.

But am kinda !!!!ed off am being held to ransom with feedback.

Ooh not good idea admitting to including the paypal fees in p+p. Still, it is feedback extortion, so report it to ebay (more info here http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/feedback-extortion.html )
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

so am supposed to send stuff at a loss. The paypal fee is only the fee on the postage costs not teh entire auction. Its about 3% i think. so 3% of 5 quid is abour 17-20p (its 3.xx%)

    I will report it.

I didn't say don't do it, just don't admit to it. :rotfl: Reasonable cost and all that, but it is against the rules, technically.

Report it as others have said

, but your p&p costs are high. Your better off adding your fees to your start price. Its all perception for the buyer. Also higher P&P costs put you lower down in searches and your DSRs will probably get hammered if you continue to charge at that rate.

I think your both in the wrong. They shouldn't have sent that message and you shouldn't have responded in that way. Its okay for postage costs to be slightly over actual postage cost to cover your extras but I think £3 extra is a bit over the top. You want to check on Ebay for your envelopes if your paying 80p. I get brightly coloured strong ones for 25p for ones so big you could put a small baby in it.

You may not agree but if I was your buyer I would leave you a negative based on your reply; I do not expect to pay for paypal fees, petrol cost and your time??? etc. I (personally) would pay up to a £1 (and that may include whatever, even petrol costs but as I wouldn't know I wouldn't care) more then actual postage cost and although I would not send an email in such abusive tone, I would send one and expect you to refund some of the money.

But that is fine, I said I expected it but of course that you as a seller can refuse to do so, it is your right. And in that case I would leave a negative.
But having said that, I have never left a negative, never had the need to as I don't even bid on items that have too high p&p.
However, in two instances (in my 5 years on Ebay) I have had sellers refund few pences without me even asking them to do so, I didn't think p&p was high but they obviously did.

All the same, whatever the rights or wrongs of this the buyer could have elicited a better response from the OP if they had been reasonable in their request. I know that emails are open to mis-interpretation but the tone was out of order and it serves them right to get the OP's somewhat flippant reponse. If I have an issue with postage charges on Ebay I would certainly query it - but politely (treat others as you would be treated yourself) and respectfully ask for a review of the charges without resorting to threats.

The OP is well within their rights to report the buyer to Ebay for threatening behaviour IMHO.
