Do not buy an Acer....
Comments

It came back from the repair yesterday, with a note stating it was working perfectly. We switched it on and it booted up instantly and then died within 10 seconds. My wife's ACER netbook died earlier today. It is still in warranty so hopefully it'll be fixed, but I did try and warn her off them....
I suspected that it might be a failure of the lead to supply power. I had no way of knowing, other than the fact it had booted up fine just before dying.
So my wife took it into our local Comet, where she asked if she could start it using one of their leads. They were helpful and allowed her to do this.... and it started perfectly.
The netbook has a 1-year warranty, but for all 'accessories' it's just 6 months. So an ACER power lead/ charger has died after about 8 months. Quality.
The replacement cost a staggering £40.0 -
I bought a ACER Desktop, and i bought my partner a ACER Laptop at the same time as got a good deal.
The ACER Desktop's hard drive failed within 2 months, it was not used heavilly, just web surfing / emails and a bit of word processing. Only used a maximum of an hour a day. Called the customer service department, was told as it was only a few months we had to take it back to comet, they sent it off to ACER to get 'fixed' came back a month later, after being told it would only take 10 days. Picked it up from comet, with the confirmation from ACER saying the hard drive had failed and the boot up process was repeating utself and would not start up into windows. Plugged it in and it had not been fixed the problem still existed. Took it back to Comet, they advised it was not fixed as they could not see the problem!. I advised that all the had to do was turn it on and it would be obvious what the problem was. They sent it off to ACER again (even though they advised it would go to Comet's repair centre) it came back without being fixed with the repair sheet. I complained to Comet who were not helpful and stated it was ACER's problem, i complained to ACER several times and never got a response. So i just cut my losses and binned it and got myself a much better built computer.
The laptop broke after 4 months of light use - again it was the hard drive and also the powerboard. Sent it off to ACER for repair, it got fixed a month later it broke again, sent it off to get repaired. Then a few weeks after it came back the power adapter broke - had to replace that. Then it broke again just outside the waranty period. So have had to fork out for the replacement of that too.
Because of this I will never by an ACER nor will i ever step foot into a Comet store.0 -

i was shouted at nearly 2 years ago when i set a thread warning people of ACER , cause some people had a laptop that worked from them .
quite simply the worst company i have ever dealt with and by a several country miles at that .
My brand new £800 top of the range ACER laptop broke after just 2-3 weeks ( it was 2007 so forgive me if exact times and dates are a tad off) .
collection was arranged with DHL and off it went , never to be seen again .
2 weeks after i sent to them they had not informed me of the repair status . i rang them up and they said sorry they were really busy ( with all the other duff laptops they had been sent back no doubt) but promised they would advise me when they where sending mine back t so i could be in to recieve the delivery . well guess what they didn't .
Somewhere between my laptop leaving the repair depot and it getting to my house , it was stolen by someone inside DHL , and a fraudulent signature was put on DHL's system . This is not ACER's fault i know . but DHL said that because it never got to me that ACER had to sort this out , as they were the Customer .
ACER 's response : "we have a siganture , we don't care that you claim ( and could prove ) it's not yours , we have proof of delivery . not our problem , your missing a £800 laptop ? tough , goodbye ".
after contacting the Police and begging DHL to deal with ACER , ( DHL admitted it had been stolen cause it never got to the delivery driver / depot) and the threat of legal action , ACER eventually agreed to claim for the missing Laptop off DHL's insurance and provide me their customer with a replacement laptop . 2 weeks they said .
2 weeks came and went , no replacement laptop . called them up . ACER response " even though we make them , we haven't got any new ones to give you ." . i demand a refund of money at this point . ACER response " we will have to ask someone , will take a few days "
when then eventually agreed to give me a refund (what the hell else were they going to do ??) they said that it will take 2 weeks to issue check ( joke i know )
2 weeks came and went , no refund cheque . called them up . ACER response " oh it never went through the system , we will issue it now , will take 2 weeks again "
3 months after the my laptop broke i eventually got a cheque , needless to say i did not buy another ACER . i instead purchased a £400 Toshiba which still works fine , although i have now given it my OH , as last year i did what i should have done a long time ago and abandoned Windows and purchased myself a Apple Macbook .
just found your post - my pc was 4 weeks old, wouldn't turn on, sent to Acer by Comet, returned via DHL, it tracked to the depot and was then stolen. Comet don't see why they should give me any money for the time and misery in sorting the mess out, cancelling credit cards etc, although I have now got a replacement machine, which has exactly the same fault - the on off power switch takes up to 55 attempts to power up. :mad:0 -
Because of this I will never by an ACER nor will i ever step foot into a Comet store
nor me :mad:0 -
I wouldn't either0

I've just bought a acer my mum has had an acer for a few years now and no problems so far.
I did however buy a Sony Vaio laptop 7 months ago the fan started making noises like a chain saw I had bought it from tesco direct I called them up I was able to take it into a local store and got a full refund.
Also sony have a massive law suit from other unhappy vaio buyers. Woops

Hi, Chalkysoil
My name is Phil and I am from Comet.
I was concerned to learn of the problems that you are experiencing with your Acercomputer.
In the first instance I would recommend contacting Acer's helpline on 0871 760 1002. They will run a diagnosis on the computer and if necessary they will be able to arrange a repair on it. If you are unable to contact the helpline directly, please pop into your local store and a member of staff will be happy to assist you and carry out this procedure on your behalf.
If you experience any problems with the repair process, you can e-mail me directly via the link below.

You will need to register a few details with us in order to be able to send your e-mail in.
Thanks
