Do not buy an Acer....

Having just spent a whopping 25 minutes on the phone to Acer (an Indian call centre) arranging collection of my Acer again - it took this long to tell them the fault, give my name and address and to get a collection number - this in itself would be enough to put you off buying an Acer. Each word in my name and address had to be told, and repeated back, per letter. ARRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...................
So, having done this I then called DHL to arrange collection of my crappy Acer - again! It broke 3 days after it was 'repaired' - same fault. Noted on the enclosed note 'please call this number if you have further problems' so I did but the repair centre refused to accept that it was their shoody work and gave me the call number for [STRIKE]India[/STRIKE] customer services. Anyhow, the guy from DHL asked for my contract number and then said 'Ah, Acer' and laughed out loud.
On having a conversation with him (about how crap this Acer was) he then told me that Tesco near him have now refused to sell them - even if they are on offer - because they are crap.
He then told me that around 1500 computers/laptops are returned to Acer to be fixed under warranty each WEEK!
Thus told, lesson learned, so for anyone considering an Acer - please do not waste your money on a crappy Acer! I am now having to take out an extended warranty on the damn thing at £100 as I know it will be broken again in a metter of a few weeks and it'll need repairing again (Fingers crossed I can get some quidco back).
Acer has been the biggest load of crap I have ever spent money on!!
In case you was wondering or dod not have the jist of this thread, Acer are crap!! Buy something else and save yourself the time and hassle. Stupidly I bought this laptop as my main business laptop and I've had to go out and buy another one so I am not without a laptop while this broken or in repair.

I had a friend who bought an Acer, and it went wrong.
He ended up throwing it in the bin.0 -
Disagree with this, have 3 Acers here, the first one was being heavilly used and the hard drive went, but we put another in and it was fine. 3 years down the line, and still going strong.
Got a new desktop in January and have an Acer monitor, and it's the clearest monitor that I have ever worked with.0 -
I bought an ACER Aspire 1644 laptop in January 2006, and I am using it right now. I had a problem that was my own fault, but otherwise it is fine. It does get overheated from time to time, but I just let it cool down. it could last many more years I think.
Because of my good experience, I bought an ACER Aspire One netbook too.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

what was it that broke on it ?0

I had an Acer laptop before my current Dell one, and their customer services are on a par. My Acer was fine though, worked well, and it's only fault was the battery refused to recharge after 3 years of use, probably because I'm not exactly gentle with it!
I think there are SO many computer companies who have shocking customer service, and aren't the slightest bit interested in private customers who have only bought 1 machine. Dell's customer service for businesses is excellent!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
The powerboard on it went. I cannot charge it with the adaptor so once the battery is dead that is it.
I do have a Dell now, and I've bought a Netbook as well. Also have an Advent laptop as back up but it is a bit old now (4 years).
£500 on a laptop for the kids basically. I'll never touch an Acer again. I sent it away, it was gone for 2 weeks, back for 3 days and even with having on a desk at all times and it not being touched it went again. Because I had to get all of the info off it and onto the new one I've waited for sending it back but now it can go back and when it returns the kids can have it to play with.0 -
Had 2 Acer laptops and never had a problem, wouldn't hesitate buying another0

Got no problem with the Acer we've got here. Nor do we have trouble with them at work...the Tech Guys do all the repairs on Acer, and we have ways of [STRIKE]making them talk[/STRIKE] solving problems like that easily.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
oopps - we bought our son an acer lap top on saturday - however it was to replace one we bought 4 years ago which said son has used 23 hours a day for all that time! and he has dropped/ battered/abused it in that time too
