Do not buy an Acer....

I had an Acer a while back, first the battery stopped working and then later the power pin came out like so many others. They quoted me £40 just to have it picked up and to then quote the repair price; the actual repair fee would go on top of that, and if I didn't like it they would send it back - but without refunding the £40.
When I saw an all round better laptop on offer I snapped it up and obiliterated my Acer with a hammer which was one of the best feelings I had in a long time after all the aggro that machine/the company had caused. I then sent the pictures to Acer but they weren't kind enough to reply.

I think Acers are generally very good. I always buy them as they are very similar to Vaio in the components they use but cheaper. I have never had any problems and I use computers quite heavily.0

I've got an Acer (had it for 5 years), so has my OH (for 4 years). My work laptop is also an Acer, which is less than 6 months old. Not had a problem with any of them...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

We have an Acer Travelmate. The build quality ain't great. It came free via a cockup thanks to a large retailer about 2 years ago. I notice there are a few dead pixels on the monitor and it did keep overheating.
We live with the monitor problem and the over heating was sorted by removing, cleaning and replacing the fan and radiator in there.
The bluetooth has also packed up, we now plug a bluetooth dongle in there if we want to transfer files etc.
I'll give it another 3 years but I won't be spending much money on it.
Would I buy again, probably not. It's either HP, Toshiba or Packard Bell for meBehind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
i was shouted at nearly 2 years ago when i set a thread warning people of ACER , cause some people had a laptop that worked from them .
quite simply the worst company i have ever dealt with and by a several country miles at that .
My brand new £800 top of the range ACER laptop broke after just 2-3 weeks ( it was 2007 so forgive me if exact times and dates are a tad off) .
collection was arranged with DHL and off it went , never to be seen again .
2 weeks after i sent to them they had not informed me of the repair status . i rang them up and they said sorry they were really busy ( with all the other duff laptops they had been sent back no doubt) but promised they would advise me when they where sending mine back t so i could be in to recieve the delivery . well guess what they didn't .
Somewhere between my laptop leaving the repair depot and it getting to my house , it was stolen by someone inside DHL , and a fraudulent signature was put on DHL's system . This is not ACER's fault i know . but DHL said that because it never got to me that ACER had to sort this out , as they were the Customer .
ACER 's response : "we have a siganture , we don't care that you claim ( and could prove ) it's not yours , we have proof of delivery . not our problem , your missing a £800 laptop ? tough , goodbye ".
after contacting the Police and begging DHL to deal with ACER , ( DHL admitted it had been stolen cause it never got to the delivery driver / depot) and the threat of legal action , ACER eventually agreed to claim for the missing Laptop off DHL's insurance and provide me their customer with a replacement laptop . 2 weeks they said .
2 weeks came and went , no replacement laptop . called them up . ACER response " even though we make them , we haven't got any new ones to give you ." . i demand a refund of money at this point . ACER response " we will have to ask someone , will take a few days "
when then eventually agreed to give me a refund (what the hell else were they going to do ??) they said that it will take 2 weeks to issue check ( joke i know )
2 weeks came and went , no refund cheque . called them up . ACER response " oh it never went through the system , we will issue it now , will take 2 weeks again "
3 months after the my laptop broke i eventually got a cheque , needless to say i did not buy another ACER . i instead purchased a £400 Toshiba which still works fine , although i have now given it my OH , as last year i did what i should have done a long time ago and abandoned Windows and purchased myself a Apple Macbook .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
I did have some customer sevice person scream at me down the phone from Acer as i could not figure out how to initialise the mouse pad when i first turned the computer on, regardless i screamed back at him and he calmed down and helped nicely.Owed out = lots. :cool:0

Just to add to the other side. I have an Acer laptop and never had a problem with it (apart from it running slow, but it is a few years old now so fair enough!)
I'd definitely buy one again.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
