I've had 5 Acer laptops - never a problem with any of them!

  • Hi All :/

I have had my Acer Laptop since December 2008, and only recently have I had problems. I wouldn't mind if the damn thing would load, here is a brief description of my problem:

Whenever the laptop is switched on it displays the following message:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause". It then states "if Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly then startup repair can help to diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during start up choose to start Windows normally". I continue to try to use the startup repair option, and consequently nothing happens. I have been trying to resolve the problem over the past few days, but to no avail. It would seem that I am not alone with this problem, as I have attempted to research the problem over the internet and discovered a link to this site: http://www.fixya.com/support/t2803826-im_having_prob_acer_aspire_5920_when

i have contacted Acer customer services via the net, and my mu is going to call in the morning whilst I am at work to see what they can do.

One of the reasons I am so frustrated is that I purchased the laptop from PLAY.COM, and have attempted to contact them via email, to no avail, every email address I can find is apparently out of use and i get a delivery failure email. The only other thing I can thing of is contacting my card company, but I paid via debit card and not credit card, so it doesnt seem like I have a chance of even getting what I deserve. From what I can gather the Acer people are rubbish and now I am at my wits end as I am a uni student, and rely on my laptop for my course, which restarts in October so I will need it back by then!! oh i could cry!!!

    please somebody help me x
Would love to win something... just unlucky i guess :(

If you think Acer is bad, Dell laptops are even worse. The major faults on Dells include broken hinges (very common) and blown power supplies.Oh, and the battery packs are fitted with a chip that automatically lowers the max charge level so that after 150 charges you should be buying a new pack even though the cells in the original are still good for another 900 chrages.
    That is utter, utter rubbish.

Acer is just as good (or bad) as every other manufacturer. Any laptop built to a price is going to have issues, this isn't unique to Acer, and as it is every brand has lovers and haters.

My wife's ACER netbook died earlier today. It is still in warranty so hopefully it'll be fixed, but I did try and warn her off them....
  • My last laptop was an Acer - it broke within the first week, the first week after it was returned form being repired the first time......2 months later it was broken...................then 2 weeks after that.

Both my flatmates also had acers and both broke at about the 6 month mark, and they had the same continual problems getting them fixed(or not) with the company - we all had different models, so it wasn't a fault there.

They will never have me as a customer again.

That's a corrupt file, my desk top did the same to me the other week, whipped it into the local pooter shop and they uncorrupted it.

Just to say, my desk top isnt an Acer, it was custom built for me, but the monitor is. If I had another laptop I would stil go fo Acer, I used and abused mine for 3 years till the graphics card went on the mobo.
  • I have got an acer aspire 9300 the RH lcd bracket has snapped due to the hinge being too stiff. I have had this computer for 3 years and I noticed a few months ago, I can no longer shut the lid. The computer is great but hmm does not look as if the screen can be fixed :(

If it's still in warranty, did you take it to the retailer first? Seeing as they have to deal with this on your behalf by law. Second to that, if you paid by credit card, you could claim under section 75.
