  • Hello All-brand new moneysaver here!

My capped tariff is ending and I'm busy trying to swap over to EDF (version. 5). Is anyone else having trouble applying via the normal/best comparison sites? At present the only site that will support my application to EDF is SimplySwitch...but I'd prefer the cashback instead of the vouchers!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but SP customer services are the worst I have ever come across. I have spent the past 12 months trying to convince them that I am on the wrong tariff. They have me on a fixed tariff till Oct 09 when I signed up for the fix till 31 Aug 09 and have sent them a copy of the letter to prove this !!

Sorry to hear of your tariff-related frustration Gambler. If you would like be to have a look at this feel free to PM and I will do all I can to assist.

Minor detail: what is your actual email address "Craig @ Scottish Power"?

I have the No Service Charge version of the end of August fixed price deal and am waiting to see the details of the proposed new tariff.

I hope Scottish Power are aware of the numbers of customers they could lose if the deal is not competitive enough to prevent people facing the hassle of changing suppliers.

I'm also on the SP FP tariff to end Aug 2009 and on my present usage I pay £1510 pa.

Looking at an SP tariff to switch to, it seems that Online Energy Saver 6 to 31/07/10 is the cheapest, however, on my present usage my bill would increase to £1560 pa (£50 or 3.3%)

Looking at the EDF Online Tariff 5 to July 2010 and again on the same usage, my bill would decrease to £1454 pa (-£56 or -3.7%)

So it looks like I can save £106 pa by switching to EDF after the end of August. (Plus any cashback that might be available)

As someone said in an earlier post, SP had better come up with a better tariff quickly or they will be losing customers in droves.

I also confirm that you are on Fixed Price 2009 which will expire on 31st August 2009 and the default package will be Capped Price Energy September 2010.
    The prices are as follows:
    Electricity
    Daily Service Charge = 12.88pence
    All/Day kWh = 10.575pence
    Gas
    Daily Service Charge = 4.335pence
    All kWh = 3.406pence
The prices will be capped and will not increase with the increase in the energy prices however will fall if there is a decrease. If you want to change the package you can do it within the first 7 days of the transfer you will not be charged any cancellation fees. However, if you changes the tariff after that there will be a cancellation fees of £20.00 for Gas and £30.00 for Electricity.

I went on the SP website to check the tariff for my area but the tariff "Capped Price Energy September 2010" is not shown at all.

The nearest is "Capped Price Energy July 2010" but the tariffs you listed are not showing there either!!

Looks like SP are playing games here !!

Would their representative on here, Craig, care to comment please?

    Hi Tuggy12,

There's no sinister reason why the capped sept 2010 offer is not listed on our website, I've let the relevant department know that it is not on there so thanks for flagging that up.

I can only assume that as the rates are the same as our current rates that they may not have felt it necessary to repeat the same prices perhaps.

If you've any questions regarding your tariff expiry and what deal would suit you best call us on 0800 400 200.

  • Hi Craig,

I'm also on the Fixed Price Energy Online tariff till 31st August, i've had the email come through telling me about the new capped rates etc, and being a lazy blighter who cant be bothered to ring SP, can you confirm that i've looked at the rates correctly, i'm in the Midlands and do have standing chg costs, i worked out my Gas price at 3.566 per unit and the STD charge as 10.95 per day, Elec as 9.333 per unit and 12.74 STD charge per day, can you confirm that this is correct?

    Cheers
  • Like many others here, our SP tariff ends on 31st August, and we've had the same email. I've just looked up the new prices (norweb area), and done a very quick re-calculation of my last bill (only a couple of days ago) using them, and it would have been about £30 (10%) more on the new prices.

Time to sart hunting again :-(
  • About the same ? Ha ha ha.

Just calculated my Scottish Power bill based on this year's spreadsheet. I'm on a no-service charge schedule. Taking into account the quarterly allowances (i.e. one price up to 224kWh, another after that, similarly for gas), I worked out the bills for this year and next.
This year's bill comes to 850 quid. Next years bill comes up to 990 quid. A *rise* of 16%.
And some pretty silly marketing hobson's choice/assumptive closing - "do you want to stay with Scottish Power option 1 or Scottish Power option2 ?". Well, if you're going to put the bill up by 16%, I'll be shopping around.

So off to check the real price.
