anyone know how i find out the rates for edfs online tariff 5 as i cant find them, the comparision site show a drop in price compared the fixed sp tariff ending on the 31st august of around £250 per year compare to new fixed 2010 from sp it would maybe £300 this seems a huge drop and i would have thought it would be broadcast all over the media if a drop this large was available, something just dont seem right about it to me.0

I'm fairly sure that we won't be charged. I don't know whether you've switched before (guess you have), but it's always taken between 6-8 weeks to do mine so we should be fine. I switched using a cashback site previously (Moneysupermarket) and had a few problems. It took about 4 months to complete the switch and when I called the energy provider they told me it was because I'd used a cashback site to make the switch - in other words if you don't go direct your switch might not be seen as a priority. The cashback site also failed to pay my cashback and when I contacted them they said they had paid it! It took about 2-3 weeks of regular calls to get this sorted out and in the end they paid it. The next switch I made I went direct and it was smooth. I just hope that this time everything runs ok, but Energyhelpline do get good reviews and it's a MSE top pick. Happy to sacrifice £15 to get a good service. All the best and let's hope we don't get charged....!
I hope you dont get charged either, but as I said before I dont trust any company anymore, and as another poster said, whats the betting you get switched before the 31st August as the incentive is there to do so on SP side of things. I also think in these companies, the left hand dont know what the right hands doing, so even if they dont switch you by 31st August, and you have written proof that they wont charge you cancellation fees, the risk is some desk jockey will apply the £50 PENALTY and then you will have the aggro sorting it out (but of course i hope you dont:j)0 -
hi AGAIN,
im getting conflicting info from the comparison sites see below
simply switch 11% and £123.82
energyhelpline 21% and £273
money supermarket £459 or £269.88 the only existing options was fixed price energy online or fixed price energy online oct 2009.
uswitch £114 using fixed price energy 2009 online dual fuel.
as you can see there is a huge difference in these.
simply switch and energy helpline appeared to be using the correct existing tariff but there is a £150 difference.
all sites came up with edf at the top.
any opinions on this.0 -
I too am on the SP Fixed Price Energy Online NSC ending 31 August 2009. I had received written notification dated 31 July that this would come to an end, but SP "we'll be in touch soon to let you know what happens".
As no further information had been forthcoming, I contacted SP on 0141 568 2000 (say no to) and asked for customer services this morning. I explained the situation and was then directed very promptly to an efficient lady in sales. She informed me that I SHOULD have received an email or letter, but she could advise me that SP would put me automatically on to a Capped Rate up to Sept 2010. In her opinion she thought however that a Discounted Energy package (3% less standard) would be slightly better for me. She took time to work out all the combinations with the information on consumption that I provided her with. She was extremely courteous and helpful. I live in the West of Scotland.
On going on to the energy comparision site recommended, I entered my details and found that EDF came out tops with a saving of £160 (we are not huge users of dual fuel - canny scots :-) ). I would like to move but since this would be a first for us, am certainly not sure after following the discussions re penalties.0 -
I received my SP notification email today, so have been looking on the simply switch and the energyhelpline and have also found they both come up with npower signon-line 16 tariff but with different savings. £48 with simply switch and £163 with energy helpline
would be interested to know why the different figures.

In response to Delmar39 I've just been on Energyhelpline and put in my details. It comes up with EDF Energy Online 5 being the best saving. But when I click on enquire (all the others say continue not enquire!) this is what it says:- Unfortunately, we are currently unable to switch your energy supply to EdF Energy - Online 5, as they do not support our service for this tariff.
That is why I tried the EDF website but that didn't help as they said they couldn't give me a saving!0 -
just spoke to sp as i have not received my email yet.
on the 31st of aug.
you will change to capped 2010 rates standing charge 10.76ppd and 10.793 unit rate electric.
standing charge 11.65ppd and 3.29 unit rate for gas.
if you opt out of this you go on standard of which the rates are exactly the same, albeit there not capped.
she also stated that if prices are dropped by sp you will receive the new prices in both cases.
we really need the guy from sp to come on and give us some real and truthful advise.0 -
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but SP customer services are the worst I have ever come across. I have spent the past 12 months trying to convince them that I am on the wrong tariff. They have me on a fixed tariff till Oct 09 when I signed up for the fix till 31 Aug 09 and have sent them a copy of the letter to prove this !!0

I have just spoken to Scottish power re: my capped tariff ending 31st August and they have told me that the new fixed tariff will be virtually the same as my present one. I did a search on uswitch and found that the cheapest tariff for me would cost me an extra £378 per year!! I will definitely be waiting to see what the new tariff will cost.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Thanks for the responses on here. I am going to wait until September 1st to do the changeovers so I don't have to pay £50 cancellation charges. I'd rather be safe than sorry with the money in my pocket not theirs0
