I just had a look at the T&C for EDF's cheap tariff and there is the clause that says any amounts you pay in connection with the tariff are non-refundable. Does that mean that if you have overpaid (DD amount too high, for instance) you cannot get a refund of the credit amount?

I have the terms and conditions now and there dose not seem to be a tie in period. The clause referred to above is -

"11. All and any amounts paid in connection with the Online Tariff Version 5 are
    non-refundable"

Craig, having just called the number you supplied, the very helpful lady told me that if Scottish Power receive notification of the switch of supplier before the 31st August (my capped tariff end date), then I would be charged the £50 fee. I mentioned that the official Scottish Power Rep had said otherwise, and she said, it was something they (implying the operators) had raised, but that was what they had been told.

I suspect that you are correct, but you might want to get a message to your call handlers, because currently their advice contradicts yours, and that means Scottish Power are giving mixed messages. :naughty:

On an aside, and for those also on the Scottish Power Fixed Price Energy Online 2009 which finishes on August 31st, I was told by the operator that the new tariff will be being announced on Monday, and I will receive the details via email.

I think I'll hold on for now, and see what shows up on Monday. If it's a good one, then I may stick with Scottish Power, otherwise I'm off to EDF via Topcashback with £40 cashback in my pocket.

Exactly the same was said to me just now...if I start the process with EDF, and they notify SP before the 31st August, then £50 CANCELLATION applies. After my experience with Eon, I will play safe and start the switch on the 01st September. SP did come up with a new fixed tariff till 2010, but I told them by switching to EDF I would also get £60 CASHBACK, and would they offer that as well, predictably, they said NO :D

SP can tell you want they like, but they cannot charge you unless you have started and not started the process of a new contract before the 31st of august.

Thats no doubt true, but having gone through the hassle in the past, when an energy company representatives (3 people) tried to convince me that the meter readings digits go down numerically as opposed to going up, so they could justify the final bill reading, well, I am taking no chances in the slightest this time! Lifes is too short to spend hours on Customer Services trying to resolve it :D

Re Scottish Power - We are on the Aug 31st fixed price online dual fuel cap. Have just received e-mail re Sept 2010 cap. The problem is I cannot work out whether it is a good deal or not - I cannot find how much I'm paying per unit at the moment so cannot work out the increase. Is it a good deal or not? Prices are presumably higher than ordinary rate but there is a promise that if prices drop, then so will the capped rate.

Thanks, I missed the 'click on the amount to get detailed charges' bit!. So on the face of it the new Sept 2010 cap is cheaper than the old one. However it would appear to be too new for the comparison sites to have included it, so I am no farther forward. According to energyhelpline Fixed price energy NSC ends 30/09/09 but it doesn't, so I don't know which of the many on offer is the 31/08 one! All rather confusing!

I emailed SP earlier this week to find out when our contract was ending, this was the reply I received......Thank you for your email.

Please be informed that you are on Fixed Price Energy 2009. The Fixed Price package will expire on 31st August 2009 and the default package will be Capped Price Energy September 2010 or Capped P.

Capped Price Energy is a product offered by ScottishPower where price paid for energy units will not rise above cap before 31 August 2010. If our standard prices fall below the capped prices, your prices will fall too.

This is to inform you that if you want to protect your prices, you can always opt for Capped P as it is a price protection package.
