I am on EON Energy Saver v4 which ends on 1 October. The EDF deal has been highlighted for me as well (quite a big difference for me). Also quite concerned about the £35 cancellation fee if the switch happens too early, though the potential savings far outweigh it (plus I get to keep the energy monitor).
I think I'll do the same as ragjoy and wait a week as well....0 -
As for the waiting till August, I'm in the same boat (And I bet 00's of us on here are
). That website has an option to wait until the 31st before processing it, so I wouldn't mind betting many of these companies will apply the charge as soon as they receive notification you want to move (Cheeky huh). It will mean paying a bit more for a couple of weeks I guess whilst the change goes through, but hey - we will have the last laugh when the move goes through.
I'm sure someone with more idea will post soon though to clarify this.
I checked with a Scottish Power rep in this thread and it seems that the cancellation charges only apply if the supply actually moves before 31 August, i.e. it doesn't kick in as soon as they receive notification of an intended switch.

Just been checking whether I could save, but trying to find a phone number on the Scottish Power website but they really don't want anybody calling them - absolutely impossible to find one. I guess I'll have to go home and look at some of the letters I was sent when I started with them (everything has been paper-free since)0

This page has a number, although you may want to use www.saynoto0870.com to find a cheaper alternative:

Yes I did the same and I have had an email response to them which states this:
I confirm your contract will expire on 31st August 2009. If you cancels supply contract or moves tariff before the end date of the product then the cancellation charges for Electricity is £30.00 and for Gas is £20.00.
I take that to mean that you only get charged once the tariff is moved or cancelled, which surely isn't going to be before 31st August if we act now?Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -

In my opinion, this sounds a bit too much like something Scottish Power could screw us on. I would take that to mean that as soon as they receive notification - that means you are cancelling (Even though it won't actually happen physically for a few more weeks), so a charge can be made.
Of course, I could be wrong - and hope I am - but hands up who wants to trust Scottish Power0 -
I'm going to wait until two weeks before the 31st to switch, it's not going to cost me £50 in extra gas/electric if I go onto their standard tariff for a few weeks.0

I'll wait until 10-15 August and give them a chance to send me this "letter" that other posters have referred to.
From previous supplier switches, I think I've got 2 weeks to "change my mind" if it looks like things are progressing too quickly in any case.If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...0 -
An extra complication!
I'm on Npower's ONE tariff. The tariff ends on July 31st 2009. They have sent me details of the new rates - I assume these are higher, but not yet checked.
However, they have ALSO sent me a letter explaining that I will receive a £00 annual discount on my anniversary date of 3rd September 2009.
So I can't really switch until after that date.
Cheers,
Don
Were on the same tariff as yourself and we got the letter through re the annual discount and ours says we will receive our £100 discount after our anniversary date of 14/08/09, and it will be on the next bill they send us. As for the new tariff details....I really dont understand it/them and hate finding cheaper gas/electricity as I find it a minefield - having said that I did a comparison for the One tariff and it was still the cheapest than othersOpinions are like ar*eholes - everybody has one!!!!0 -
Anyone considering changing to Edf can get £40 cash back through Top Cashback and there are no fees.0
