In my opinion, this sounds a bit too much like something Scottish Power could screw us on. I would take that to mean that as soon as they receive notification - that means you are cancelling (Even though it won't actually happen physically for a few more weeks), so a charge can be made.

Of course, I could be wrong - and hope I am - but hands up who wants to trust Scottish Power ;)

    Hi Sheepster,

To allay any fears you (or any other posters in your position) may have, cancellation fees are only applied if the actual change of supplier takes place before the expiry date of your offer.

Provided your supply does not leave before 31 August you will incurr no cancellation fee.

I understand another poster has found it difficult to locate our telephone number. If you still need to speak with us call 0845 2700 700 or alternatively feel free to send me a PM and I will be happy to help in any way I can.

    Hi Craig.
Could you please confirm that there are not any cancellation charges applied or applicable to ScottishPower's 'Capped For Free' online tariff due to expire end of Sept 09?

    Thanks.

Craig, having just called the number you supplied, the very helpful lady told me that if Scottish Power receive notification of the switch of supplier before the 31st August (my capped tariff end date), then I would be charged the £50 fee. I mentioned that the official Scottish Power Rep had said otherwise, and she said, it was something they (implying the operators) had raised, but that was what they had been told.

I suspect that you are correct, but you might want to get a message to your call handlers, because currently their advice contradicts yours, and that means Scottish Power are giving mixed messages. :naughty:

On an aside, and for those also on the Scottish Power Fixed Price Energy Online 2009 which finishes on August 31st, I was told by the operator that the new tariff will be being announced on Monday, and I will receive the details via email.

I think I'll hold on for now, and see what shows up on Monday. If it's a good one, then I may stick with Scottish Power, otherwise I'm off to EDF via Topcashback with £40 cashback in my pocket.

they told me that as also stated by craig SP rep that there would not be a charge, how can there be,i would not pay it unless they can prove my new EDF charges started prior to the 31st august,it simply cant happen unless they rush it threw.

    Hi

I'm on EON's Price Protection Plan 17 cap, due to expire on 1st October (no early cancellation fees). I've done a few comparisons and it seems Scottish Power's tariffs are the cheapest annually (the top being its Online tarriff) followed by npower's Sign On-line 16.

The conundrum I'm having is that it seems these tariffs are top because they include large discounts (£160 and £105), which I'm guessing are applied after a full12 months have passed.

Should I opt instead for the third best company, Ebico, instead, given that it's only £80 more a year than Scottish Power online, so that I don't get locked in for a whole year, waiting for a discount (and to avoid SP's cancellation fees, of course)?

Finally, if I do end up going for SP Online, can anyone tell me why you can't switch to it online, and have to call them up for some reason (I've been to SP's website, got a quote through that, etc)? This means I can't go through topcashback and get £80. Is it to do with the new tariff apparently being announced on Monday?

    Thanks.

SPs discounts are taken off throughout the year as far as I'm aware, The Npower tariff has the £105 that comes back after 12 months.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
