Is your capped tariff ending? Article Discussion

I've just seen in this week's email that I'm going to be charged to leave Scottish Power after the end of the month, not impressed! I suppose it's a lesson to read the small print..
I've just switched through Quidco to EDF (cheapest supplier and £60 cashback) but I'm concerned it won't be processed before the end of the month. Any ideas what I should do?
Sorry if this has already been covered.
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
I have been automatically put on this tariff from the Fixed Price Energy Tariff 2009. If I wanted to switch to another supplier now, would the switch have to go through before the end of September (which is the date until I can tell Scottish Power that I want to move to their standard monthly Direct Debit price)? Would it be safer to move to the Scottish Power standard monthly Direct Debit price and then switch suppliers (assuming there are no cancellation prices on the standard monthly prices)?
Thanks for your help0 -
Personally, for safety's sake I would request to be put onto the standard tariff then switch away. SP haven't exactly covered themselves in glory here. To automatically switch their punters onto another tariff with an exit fee is, at best, morally questionable, and, at worst, open to legal challenge.Call me Carmine....

We switched to the Eon Saver 4 last year and it ends on 1st Ocotober. Eon have sent us a letter saying that we will be switched to the EnergySaver R1 which they admit will cost 5.8% more than the current standard unit prices but it is capped and protected until April 2011. No cancellation fees.
I have done a comparison on EnergyHelpline and Eon comes top. A saving of 16% with the Fixonline NSC v3 fixed until Dec 2010 with cancellation fees. Even EDF with the £30 cashback does not come close.
I am reluctant to fix and wonder what other Eon customers are thinking of doing.0 -
Thanks, Carmine. I agree with you re: immorality of putting us onto another tariff with an exit fee- I really think that the regulators need to look into this sort of sharp practice, it is a disgrace.0

Put it this way - in the industry there are only the Big 6 suppliers who seem to believe that, at the moment, a fixed deal is the best way forward. To be fair, I think they mean it's the best way forward for their shareholders, not their customers...Call me Carmine....

Im with Scot Power and fixed mine in May 08 until 2011. So far going well, have been in credit ever since and take my own monthly readings to check all correct. Have used them for about 8 years now and have had no major problems, and plenty of historical data to back up any issues i have. Like all things financial, the onus is on us the consumer/customer to be vigilant and wise, not just pay whats asked.0

I have just checked my account as well, and despite sending me an email acknowledging that I had opted out of the new Capped until July 2010 deal and wished to remain on standard, they have automatically put me on Capped anyway.
I have PMd Craig the Scots Power Rep, for advice as I don't want to change it online and then get whacked for £50 for leaving the scheme.
I despair, I really do - I did it all correctly, got the acknowledgement I wished to stay on Standard for the time being, and yet I have still been changed to the capped rate automatically.
EDIT to say that Craig has now sorted it for me. Thanks very much, Craig
I was in the same boat, despite opting out, I was put on the capped rate anyway. Craig sorted it for me very quickly and easily, but I'd advise anyone to check what account they're on.
Now just got to find the best deal for me!0
