From what I can see that fare has already gone - I would think you need to book asap.
  • Help would be appreciated please, I'm at my wits end trying all different combinations!

Travelling on Saturday 7th May to London (Wembley stadium) for FA Trophy final against Darlington.

Need to be near Wembley for around 1.30pm ish for a few drinks beforehand, and leave Wembley about 6.30 in cse of extra time etc.
Travelling from Mansfield, or Nottingham if its cheaper, then we'd get a single to Notts which is an extra £4ish.

Can also travel from Retford however I believe Darlington fans would be on these trains as on East Coast mainline and therefore the prices are very high from what I've seen.
Any help with splitting the tickets? I've tried splitting at Kings Cross but doesn't make it any cheaper.
Thanks in advance you lovely people :-)

    Hi,

Anyone know what the cheapest rail travel from london to leuchars is ? I am travelling on sat jun 26th and need to arrive at 1pm. Return leg on sunday 27th departing say after 3pm

cheapest i've found is £117 return, though not sure if splitting up the ticket from london-edinburgh-leuchars or some alternative variation works out any cheaper?

    Thanks

The only way to be sure on things like that is to work out the prices when splitting at various places.

However, according to East Coast Trains homepage, you are a bit too early for those dates.
They are saying that cheap Advance Singles have only been released up to Friday 24 June 2011.

By clicking on Get alerts on that webpage you can sign up to get an email when your dates are available.

The cheap tickets are not released yet

The previous weekend you can do it for £37.50 each way so that's what's likely. No point in splitting if that is the case

Travelling from Mansfield, or Nottingham if its cheaper, then we'd get a single to Notts which is an extra £4ish.

    Mansfield - London Terminals
    Super-Off Peak Return
    Route Any Permitted
    £55.50

Depending on which way you wanna go.

Splitting along Midland Mainline does not produce much of a saving.

    Mansfield - Leicester
    Off Peak Day Return
    Route Any Permitted
    £12.30

    Leicester - Kettering
    Off Peak Day Return
    Route Any Permitted
    £10.70

    Kettering - Bedford Stations
    Off Peak Day Return
    Route Any Permitted
    £10.30

Bedford Stations - London Zones 1-6
    Super-Off Peak Day Travelcard
    Route Any Permitted
    £20.00

The total comes to £53.30, however it does have the benefit of a travelcard thrown in, worth £7.30 if using it to go between central London and Wembley and maybe around London for a bit (direct train from Marylebone). The last return journey from St Pancras in order to get back to Mansfield is the 2030, changing at Nottingham, or if you only need to get back to Nottingham, the 2200.

Alternatively if you're hellbent on cutting cost, try this one below.

    Mansfield - Birmingham Stations
    Off Peak Day Return
    Route Any Permitted
    £20.50

Birmingham Stations - London Terminals (or Wembley Stadium, same price)
    Super-Off Peak Return
    Route High Wycombe
    £19.50

The total is £40.00. With this combination you can only travel on routes through High Wycombe, which is normally services operated by Chiltern from/to Birmingham Moor Street, a short distance from New Street. You can catch the 0729 from Mansfield, change at Nottingham and get into New Street at 0954. There is a train from Moor Street at 1015, which will get you to Wembley Stadium station at 1235, changing at High Wycombe. (You can break your journey at Wembley Stadium station legitimately.) However if you fail to catch that, the next train would be the 1033 from New Street, changing at both Banbury and High Wycombe, getting into Wembley Stadium at 1309.

For the return journey wholly on the rails the last connection back from Wembley Stadium is the 1809, changing at High Wycombe, and arriving back at Moor Street at 2029. There is then the train from New Street at 2052, changing at Leicester and Nottingham, and getting back into Mansfield at 2341.

If you miss the 1809, then you can catch the 1909 (last valid connection), changing at High Wycombe, and arriving at Moor Street at 2130. You can then get the 2210 from New Street to get back to Nottingham at 2328. The final sector will need to be completed using the nightbus on the pronto route at 0005 from Victoria Bus Station to get back to Mansfield.

Hope it helps and good luck.

Needless to say it is the weekend and there is no peak-time restriction on these tickets and railcard holders get 34% off the above prices.
