There are likely to be cheaper Advance Singles available shortly. Although maybe not as cheap as you are hoping.

It is worth noting that all tickets other than Advance Singles will not go up. They can be bought at today's prices upto and including the day of travel. So don't be panicked into buying them.

Of course your 16-25 railcard will knock a third off all these tickets.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out over the next few days then!

Any ideas about the best way to travel from Kings Langley to Kensal rise/green in rush hour for a week?!!. I'm going on a course from sun 13th June to Sat 19th and as I am a country bumpkin who will be staying at a friends house in Kings Langley i have no idea what the cheapest way to purchase tickets/travel card will be.
I know its londonmidland that run from Kings Langley. Completely baffled about oyster cards and such like.
Any tips would be great. As an add on I may travel from the course up to to Northampton on The Saturday afternoon ( I know I am missing the date of special offer great escape to the midlands for a tenner!!).
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my travel plans, hope you can help.
A season ticket seems the most appropriate.

    Season Ticket calculator says...
A 7-day season Kings Langley to Kensal Green is £56.70.
A 7-day season Kings Langley to Kensal Rise is £55.30.

If you are planning to travel from Kensal Green/Rise to Northampton, you only need a ticket from KL to Northampton. Your train does not need to stop at Kings Langley in this case. Off Peak Single = £19.00.

You will need to change at Watford Junction every time.
  • thank you for that Keith!
    I really appreciate your help.

    Hello,

I'm looking at being down in Newbury (From Newcastle) over the august bank holiday weekend and with Reading Festival being the same week I probably need some good forward planning to get a decent price. However my brief check via transport direct and the cross country website reveals they're already over £100. I've yet to apply my student railcard or try any splitting so I'm sure it wouldn't be quite so bad, but still, that's pretty steep, especially when I usually get home to Oxford for Christmas, etc for about £20 each way without any extra effort.

However, having looked at the trainline website; while it doesn't offer any advance ticket alerts for my journey, it does say that cross country trains advance tickets are only available for journeys up til the 24th August at the moment. So my question is are there likely to be advance fares for my journey in a few days time or will it only get more expensive?

    Thank You.

hi there, i have tickets from newcastle to newbury but i dont need them anymore, which dates are you needing for (i can change the dates with virgin) and probably sell them to you for about £60

hopefully this is good for you as i would love to sell these on to someone.

my son has a hospital appointment at GOSH in London this month. We'll be getting Chiltern railways down there, then doing a bit of sightseeing while there.

Do I need a separate ticket for the underground (can't remember what we did last time).

GOSH is near euston/Kings cross I think.

Yep. Separate ticket. Get an oystercard -saves time and money.

You can buy a ticket that includes the underground (it's called a one day travelcard) - but it's best to check if it's actually going to save you any money. From Warwick Parkway for example it can be cheaper to buy a separate travelcard when you arrive. From Bicester North the combined ticket is cheaper - and cheaper than Oyster for more than one tube journey

Can any of you give me some advice for a trip I'm making in September, I'm travelling from Macclesfield to Newcastle Sat Sept 18th and back Sun Sept 19th.
I don't mind booking a particular train for the Sat but I'd like some flexibility for the Sunday.

Trainline.com suggests I'm probably looking at £68, should I be able to do better than that??

I'm an adult with no railcard.

    many thanks for any advice
    cheers Rob

Firstly, avoid buying tickets from the trainline and avoid their fees.

That £68 fare is a fully flexible Off Peak Return.
It is difficult to be flexible in one direction only, because a flexible single, an Anytime Single in this case, is £56.50.
This means that the 'non-flexible' single cannot cost more than £11.50 before it becomes uneconomic. Not possible.

Now, you are a bit early for cheap tickets on your dates, but using a Sat/Sun in July, 24/25, as an example, it is possible to do your journey for £33.40...
Off Peak Single Macclesfield to Manchester Pic = £3.20.
Advance Single Man. Pic. to Newcastle = £13.50.
Advance Single Newcastle to Man. Pic. = £13.50.
Off Peak Single Man. Pic. to Macclesfield = £3.20.

But you lose all flexibility. With Advance Singles you must travel on the booked train.

    Info from East Coast Trains.

    Hi
I'm looking to go from Brighton to Manchester Picadilly or Victoria 31/07/10 returning 01/08/10.
I have looked here and found tickets for £35, is that realistic? I was expecting it to be alot more expensive than that, the trainline want £83.70 for the same tickets????
