Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

Hi,
I finally booked my advance tickets from Milton Keynes to Blackpool North. We got the advance fare with a friend and family discount.
However we have just tried to book a 2nd set of tickets for my friend so we can all go together, but the advance fare won't come up on the same train. Does this mean we bought the last advance fare for that train. Or we can't do it on the same computer (cookies?) or will more advance fares become available?
There is an advance fare on a later train, however we need to travel together to use the Freinds and Family card!
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Sarah:D
Firstly - if you are trying to book one ticket you won't get the F&F discount whether on advance or normal fares. It's too late - they have to be booked at the same time.
You may well have booked the last advance fare. If you have there won't be any more. Using the same or a different computer won't make any difference.
Choices - friend travels on their own on the later train with an advance ticket or friend travels with you at full fare0 -

We are trying to book another 4 (2 Adults, 2 Children) The advance fare was alot more if we booked 8 tickets together, instead of 4 and 4. So we booked 4 to start with and went straight in to buy another 4, but no advance fare available on same train.
Friends cannot travel on a later train with F & F discount as we will have the card on the earlier train.
We have obviously mis-judged the Advance Fare ticketing system and it looks like friends will drive to Blackpool as we were comparing train costs again petrol and the advance fair was cheaper than driving, the next cheapest fair is dearer!
Shame!

Hi,
i am looking for some help to find the cheapest fare to go from leigh on sea to tunbridge wells this weekend (saturday to sunday)
I can find a return for £30, but looking at the london area covered by the travel card (which costs £12.90), do i just pick the first station outside that (i think its sevenoaks - depending on route but how do you know) and get 2 singles / return from there plus a travel card for each way?
If so - how do i get the travel card in kent, or does that cover a wider area?
thanks
jim
There's no point - it will come to more than the £30 return ticket
If it was worth it - it's the first/last station IN the zones you'd need. Or Boundary zone 6 might be a few pence cheaper, but you cant buy BZ6 tickets online.
It would be Knockholt and Upminster for your journey0 -

I'm pretty sure that even on the same train they'd have needed their own separate F&F card for a separate booking
As you say, shame0 -

Hi, I was wondering that, however we have travelled together paying for our tickets at the railway station separatey before travelling.
I've had a quick look at the terms and conditions and it doesn't say you have to buy tickets together.

Although I may just double check as I've just found the advance tickets are still available if the 2 legs of the journey are bought separately!
Hmmmmmmm!

Hi,
Can anyone help me with the following journey:
Travelling on Fri 13th Aug from Laindon to Weymouth (I don't think time of day matters too much)
Returning on Fri 27th Aug.
2 adults travelling plus 2 children under 5.
Thanks in advance for any help.0 -

With a Family and Friends Railcard that reduces to £98 25.
Advance Singles with Railcard from Waterloo to Weymouth will cost £19.65.
Anytime Day Single Laindon to Waterloo (change to Jubilee Line at West Ham to Waterloo) costs £17.40 with railcard.
So total = £37.35 each way plus cost of railcard.
Maybe Megatrain from Waterloo to Weymouth will help but there are no fares for those dates yet.
All fares are for you complete party.

Hello,
I'm looking at being down in Newbury (From Newcastle) over the august bank holiday weekend and with Reading Festival being the same week I probably need some good forward planning to get a decent price. However my brief check via transport direct and the cross country website reveals they're already over £100. I've yet to apply my student railcard or try any splitting so I'm sure it wouldn't be quite so bad, but still, that's pretty steep, especially when I usually get home to Oxford for Christmas, etc for about £20 each way without any extra effort.
However, having looked at the trainline website; while it doesn't offer any advance ticket alerts for my journey, it does say that cross country trains advance tickets are only available for journeys up til the 24th August at the moment. So my question is are there likely to be advance fares for my journey in a few days time or will it only get more expensive?
Thank You.0 -

It is worth noting that all tickets other than Advance Singles will not go up. They can be bought at today's prices upto and including the day of travel. So don't be panicked into buying them.
Of course your 16-25 railcard will knock a third off all these tickets.0 -
Any ideas about the best way to travel from Kings Langley to Kensal rise/green in rush hour for a week?!!. I'm going on a course from sun 13th June to Sat 19th and as I am a country bumpkin who will be staying at a friends house in Kings Langley i have no idea what the cheapest way to purchase tickets/travel card will be.
I know its londonmidland that run from Kings Langley. Completely baffled about oyster cards and such like.
Any tips would be great. As an add on I may travel from the course up to to Northampton on The Saturday afternoon ( I know I am missing the date of special offer great escape to the midlands for a tenner!!).
