Hi, I posted a while back and was a 21st May bride, but have no changed to a 28th May.
How stupid am I.... I didn't even know this was a bank holiday weekend! Not sure that it really makes much difference to us, but nice I suppose for other people to have a long weekend afterwards to recover!

So far all we've done is paid the caterers the deposit and the vicar.

Currently trying to find photographer and marquee hire/buying place. Good luck with all your things ladies.

good luck to you too, you should be fine getting married on a Saturday, i'm getting married on the 2nd May (which is the bank holiday monday) and as most florists, hairdressers and makeup places are closed for that day i've had to ask lots of questions about whether they'll charge me extra.

mostly it's just these services, i've managed to get a discount for the car and we've also got a discount from the photographer too so my advise is always haggle, they can only say no lol!

I cut the 'checklist' out of the back of 'Perfect Wedding' Magazine (£2.99!- one of the cheapest) and stuck it on the fridge. So far we have checked off most things which need to have been with 12 months to go and some of the 9 months to go stuff so we are a bit ahead of ourselves. Which is good as we have not really done much this month except send out a few the save the dates and I started shopping for a dress. :)

I've got the little wedding magazines i feel like they are more within my budget and they show some really lovely wedding ideas!!

Perfect Wedding and wedding ideas are my two favourite magazines, as they do have a range of prices- not just stupidly expensive :p

Just confirmed our church and reception venue in the Outer Hebrides for May 27 2011 and now totally petrified, it's just gone from happily daydreaming to really having to spend money! Quite excited though, but a lot further behind everyone else that's here.
Quick question though, is anyone else really terrified of going dress shopping? I know it's meant to be enjoyed but I'm finding even the thought intimidating!

I was really nervous about the dress shopping bit. But I bit the bullet- and went and did with my mum and my BM and actually, it was fun. I think it depends a little on where you go too, as the second time I went it was a bigger busier store and it wasn't as enjoyable. So, maybe make your first appointment in a small store where you can get good 1-2-1 attention :)

it is :) I want to get save the dates sent out this month, and at least to have talked to some florists. And maybe even some cake people :)

Gosh all I've done is decide on the venue, we haven't even paid them the deposit yet (doing it tomorrow hopefully!!!). Then we're on to photographers. My Dad thinks it's far too soon to be looking at dresses but I really want to start so as I get an idea of what suits me etc.. I'm just hoping they don't intend to leave everything until the last minute!!! My parents have kindly offered to pay you see so they have to do it all....

we're currently gathering together addresses for everyone we want to send save the dates out to (we got them as mini cards from moo which were great).

and i'm the same about the florists, have to find a few i can possibly talk to and check out prices. my mum and aunty are making the bottom layer of the cake (which is going to be fruit) so i might see if i can talk to the guy who made my sisters other two layers and iced the whole thing to talk about prices when i'm down home again.

i'm not looking for anything mad or fancy as my cake, already bought the ribbon on ebay to go round it and will be searching ebay for a topper!

i also have to sit down and make some more dress shopping appointments, have one at the end of the month but really need to have a day off and just go for a few appointments and try on lots of dresses lol!

    good luck in your search!

You want to have picked a dress with at least 6 months to go so by November at the very latest to leave time for fitting appointments and (god forbid) any c*ck ups :o I'm hoping to have mine picked and ordered by September (assuming I've shifted enough fat by then :o:o) so it's not unreasonable to start looking now, and at least have an idea of what you are looking for. As it is- the style I thought I really didn't want and wouldn't suit me at all (strapless) actually suits me best so far so I've had to re alter all my thinking :rotfl:
