I also admit that if I haven't had time to hang the washing out and its been there for 6 hours or more then again I would have rewashed it, but surely a rinse with fabric softener would freshen it up, would it?

i take a few things out and give them a sniff, if they don't smell they're fine of course, if they have a slight smell time out on the line drying in the air and (hopefully) sun fixes that in no time!

Something I've never really thought about until we got an outdoor rotary line recently ... I've just put freshly washed bed linen out to dry and we've just had a 5 minute light shower while it was out ... now I don't know whether to wash it again or not?!

I wouldn't wash it again after a light shower

if I've been out and it's rained heavily I might though :)

If I am home I get it in, if not then I fetch it in when I get back and stick it on the airers, I never rewash it.

i don't think you're lazy, i think you're practical. if you've never seen anything that makes you feel it needs rewashing then why bother?

i don't rewash mine, mind you if they were out for several days in the rain (don't know why i'd let that happen but if i did) i'd probably wash them then but here it's just reasonably clean water!

i'll grab what's mostly dry if i catch it, if not, well it will get dry eventually outside... my airer is broken so all it would do in the house is moulder!

btw anyone got the link for the really good heated airer? i'm considering getting one for this winter as i have to replace mine anyway

We've got radiator airers, but have them fixed on the wall above the rad so we get to warm the room too as well as dry the washing in winter. :)

  • If I get washing in from the rain it generally needs a rewash but I do the shortest cycle for it. Have always done so, and so do my mum and my nan did too. Never really thought about it lol.

May not do this in future! :T

I must admit it's never even crossed my mind to rewash them if they got rained on! I read previously that morning dew (if washings on the line overnight) evaporates and leaves washing all lovely, so I tried it out and agreed! I do take washing in if it's tipping it down, but then I do sometimes need our washing dry within a certain time frame.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

So glad i saw this thread, it reminded me that i still have to get the washing in off the line!

p.s. I'm going to invest in radiator dryer racks for winter.

I find that if it does rain on the washing it actually seems to soften it.
