BG calc of number of higher rate kWh

"Bit thick" - That is why two paid BG employees state independantly that since 2007 my rate has been 670 and can not understand the reasons for the later variation in tariff. Either they have a clue what they are describing or they should not venture to make such statements.
The 670 should be taken as a constant and proportion it over the quarter. If you don't take this approach, then BG can basically charge whatever it likes when it likes. Its the only wriggle room they have got, because they can't fiddle the meter, and the price per unit is too obvious to mess with, but varying the tariff apears too complicted for most folk to bother challenging.
This is a CON. Two members of BG staff can not account for why it was done.

Have Pdf from 2007 ( saved and printed out BTW- ) show in 125's for electric.
My gas bill has some funny numerical logic and the ealy half actually calculates out at 670 units. Later it goes beserk.
I can not see why , if the wholesale price of gas rose
Historically BG used to have a daily 'standing charge' of xx pence per day.
When they changed to the Tier1/tier2 system they still recovered that 'standing charge' by charging extra for Tier 1 units.
However some people didn't use all their Tier 1 allocation of units in a quarter(particularly gas in summer) so BG didn't collect the full standing charge.
So to ensure they collected as much of the standing charge as possible they reduced the number of Tier 1 units but increased the price of those tier 1 units. e.g.
225 units at 15p = £33.75.
So 125 units at 27p still equals £33.75
If you post full details of your bill, we will try to make some sense of it.0 -
Quick thought:
The other line of reason then is:
Maybe this is how BG prepare customers by giving them false information prior
to customers entering into final negotiations. "Oh sorry we gave you the current gas tariffs, not those dating back to 2007, silly us".
One or 'tother matey.
Can you Subject Access Request BG?0 -

I don't work for BG(or any utility company) and BG's new computer system has been a £500million disaster.
It could be a mistake - although I suspect there is some rational explanation.
However it is most certainly not a 'con'! Someone would have to program the computer for that to happen, and that would be a criminal offence(conspiracy to defraud) and people would go to jail.
P.S.
I am afraid that some of the BG staff in call centres cannot be bothered to sort things out - they just want rid of the problem and will fob you off.0 -
Cardew .
This isn't the issue. It really isn't
If they are using 670 as the constant- then 670 is the amount you should pay the higher rate for.
They haven't chrged me extra per unit, they have increased the number of tier 1 units proportionally. Hence I get 1300 tier 1 in approx 90 days over the year.
In year 2 they increase the price of the 1300 units by about 25% as well.0 -
Nope both employees contacted their line manages, were extremely polite , I enjoyed dealing with them . Both clearly stated on two seperate occasions my agreement was for 670 units per quarter Tier 1.0

You really need to post some detail if you want other opinions.
We need the tariff you are on.
Meter reading and dates of that reading.
No of kWh charged at tier 1 and tier 2 and price of those kWh.
As far as I am aware nobody has ever raised your issue on this forum and there are hundreds of BG customers; many with a strong dislike of BG.
I, and am sure many others, check our BG bills thoroughly and they don't have your problem.
The bills are produced by a computer so it seems strange that you have this error but others don't.0 -
I have also run the cubic m-kwh through the standard conversion formula there are inconsitencies in their calculations which would not allow for seasonal pressure- temperature variation within the formula. It is only pennies, these
are slightly lower, in my favour, than if a constant 1.02264 were applied throughout the year.- Multiply by the temperature and pressure figure (1.02264).
- Multiply by colorific value (39.25)
- Divide by 3.6 to get the number of kilowatt hours (kWh)
I think BG may just be sloppy in maths dept.0 -
listen...we're right, your wrong. The BG billing system doesnt just make its own tariffs up as it goes along. scan a copy of your bill and host it, and we shall explain it for you. seen as tho you and the plebs that answer the phones at BG are too thick to figure it out.Sunny in Southampton.0
