Sounds like the menopausal till operator has misunderstood their policies.

Having said that a Morrisons till jockey asked my wife for ID when we were out shopping together a few months back.

    I am 37 and she is 36.

Well let's put it like this:

If someone walked into Tesco, with a young person, and then purchased alcohol for them right in front of the cashiers eyes...Tesco would get in an awful lot of trouble.

They're not prepared to take the risk of getting caught out. I don't blame them.

neither do i but my child was five now which muppets buy alchol for a five year old:

Trading standards use this excact scenario to catch the stores out, TS officer attends till with underage volunteer. Purchases an age restricted item then hands it to the kid then walk out seperatly to see if challenged etc etc.

Unfortunately, Tesco are well within their rights to do this. They are legally bound to refuse to sell alcohol to ANYONE* who they believe MAY pass the alcohol onto a minor. They don't need proof, you don't need to look like a chav or a scally, they just have to have their suspicions.

I know this isn't fair, is open to misjudgement and generally annoying, but think of the sales assistant. If they don't do their job properly and get caught out just once, they are facing losing their job, a fine and a criminal record...

*If you are buying alcohol and you have your children with you (not sister or brother etc) then they have NO right to refuse to sell it to you, you under the grounds that you might pass the alcohol onto your son/daughter, as it isn't against the law for a parent to supply their child with alcohol. The only problem here is that YOU need to prove that the minor with you is your child...

It happend to me to last week. It was my husbands birthday and i was throwing him a party at our house with all our family and friends attending. My 10 year old niece was with me as she had slept over at mine the night before and was going to help me decorate.
So off we pop to tesco and i spend around £250 on party foods, about 15 bottles of pop and 2 cases of beer {mother in law was getting rest of drink}. I got to the till and started bagging up before the check out girl told me i couldn't have the beer as i could be buying it for my niece. I told her it was quite obvious i was buying things for a party and if i was planning on giving her beer i wouldn't have brought so much pop, in a jokey way. She still said i couldn't have it so I asked for the manager and he thank god let the sale through.

What person in their right mind if they was buying booze for kids would actually take them to the checkout with them!
  • well i suppose tesco might stop us buying fatty foods next if the child with us looks overweight, just 'incase' its for the them , and we feed the child and make them obese and they die.............

plus why would i give a 13 year a £10 bottle of wine!, she can have the 3 quid stuff instead ;)*

Even the 3 for £10 is too good for a 13 year old. That's what Lambrini is for...
