  • Thanks mummytogirls ! Need a bump in the right direction :)
Is sounding a whole lot better than the original 48 months. Said loan is just under £6000 now!
Must stop by your diary to catch up.

  • Hello all
I'm still here, in lurking mode. Tough couple of weeks, more emotionally than financial, but one affects the other in a roundabout way.

Teenage sons don't come with a trouble shooting guide, and the department of education - pre election - well and truly stuffed up all plans we/he had made for the next two years, having just left year 11, by withdrawing the college course he had a place on for September.

At 16, nothing really matters does it ? I know when I was that age, things didn't really matter, I didn't have a sense of urgency. To cut to the chase. My DS has been offered an opportunity, that would be ridiculous in my eyes to turn down given the state of the job market.

I don't want to make him do something he'll hate but at the same time life doesn't actually let you play XBOX and hang around the beach with your mates every other day, as idyllic as it seems.

This is honestly one of the hardest situations I've ever had to deal with with him, without his dear Dad being here I have found it extremely difficult. On the plus side he is a credit to me and my late DH that this is the biggest issue I've had to encumber with him after what we've been through.

I think the issue is resolved and he will take it, it's an apprenticeship and lasts two years. I've said to him do this and then you can choose, with a trade under your belt, hopefully post recession Britain will be a better place.

    Sigh....

  • Thanks Hypno, just trying to instill some sort of mature principles in him, hopefully in 10 years time he will be reaping the benefits and be in demand for his skill. He can't see past what's for dinner at the moment.

Oh crikey DC, sorry to hear your having a hard time of late. Hope DS listens to his wise mum and gets a trade behind him, but you know these 'kids' like to think they know best!!

I no doubt will have these battles in a few years time!

    Take care x x

hi DC difficult choices - parenting is always hard I think. Hugs.

At least if he gets a trade under his belt he can widen his choices again later if he wants to
