Because I don't have a samsung? Plus I wrote 'networks cannot block numbers', which is true. A phone may be able to though.

I did go to police and report it - I doubt they would have appreciated me waltzing in on a Thursday night, which is a busy night in the town I live in.

As I said in one of my earlier posts, I appreciate everyones help and support and apart from a few nasties and people then jumping on the bandwagon its been a really helpful thread to me.

I am a relatively young girl and admitted that I felt uneasy and scared by this man which I don't think deserves a flaming when I go through possible scenarios.

It's a shame that a few ruin what is otherwise a fantastic site.

I admit I've read threads before and thought 'something doesn't quite add up', and if I reply, I would politely say so or ask the OP to expand - I just don't think there's any need to resort to petty and uncalled for behaviour. If you don't like the thread then don't read - simples :)

Hmm, 'Smart' but casual, did you actually read anything that was written?

This happened on Thursday, I went to the police today, which is Friday. So that's one DAY, not 'days' plural.

And yes, plenty of people meet from Gumtree to sell goods as cash, it was listed on ebay too but that saves fees, I don't see what the big conspiracy is about that.

My network could take action yes, I'm sure they will work with the police to trace calls/texts to my number, but they can't block calls, and I invite you to call my network and ask that (o2 btw). As I've mentioned, some Samsung handsets can block individual numbers but a network cannot, and I don't have a Samsung.

I've already stated that I have left my number with the police to update me and as soon as I've heard an update I will most likely change my number.

  • Epic fail in some people's case.

I think we would do well to remember the other good advice given throughout this thread: Report, and then ignore.

networks cant block numbers that is true, but i dont think it actually a case of they cant more of a case they dont want to, the only way i got around this was by changing my number which they duly charged me a handsome fee of £10 to do, which is probably why they wouldn't block a number

OP you may not like what Smart But Casual says nor how he says it but you do have to keep things in perspective.

You have done what you should have with possibly the exception of changing your number.

You say you are relatively young have you spoken to your parents/family about this? Sometimes these forums are not the best places to get advice whilst keeping some perspective on things.

One final point did you buy the watch? Is there any chance it is fake and this guy is not just a weirdo?

I'd double check that there aren't other sites other than 192 for searching the electoral role because I used them years ago and many sites offered that service. Is it not worth getting someone to just give him back the money, preferably with a police witness!? I'd be relieved if he had gone to the police, thats means he's linked himself with you and knows he'd be in the frame if he tried anything, hope you get it sorted, must be a dreadful feeling

Hey, I used to work for o2 so I know their procedures and they can't do it I'm afraid.

First time number changes are free on o2 after that £35  This would be my first number change as I've had this number for years and years, so would be a hassle to change it, not ruling it out though.

Hintza, it was a gift from an ex, and no there's no chance its not genuine. I said in another post though, that even if it was, I don't think it really warrants his behaviour and texts that he's sent afterwards.

I've spoken to a friend but not my family, if I'm being really truthful I am a bit embarrassed that I even put myself in that position and feel a bit stupid now. Looking back it wasn't the smartest thing to do, going on my own, but it's been done now and a lesson well and truly learned, not just for me but for others I hope too.
