In a bit of a pickle, don't know what to do...

I placed an ad in a local selling site for an item I was selling (it was also on ebay) and someone responded and wanted to buy it. We had sent a few emails back and forth and it was decided to meet and hand over goods and pay cash. (this wasn't from ebay site).

When we met I handed over the goods, the person looked over them, was happy and I left. I have met people and handed things over before but this time I felt really uncomfortable (for reasons I don't want to go into at this moment, but I could expand later if needed).

I then got some texts asking me if I had any more of this item that I could sell, to which I replied no.

A while later I then got texts saying that they wanted a refund because the item is a fake  (which it isn't).

I have since had texts saying that they will find out where I live and I will be in big trouble, that they want to meet me to give the money back, that they will do 'whatever it takes' to get the money back.

They are now saying they will go to the police and report me for selling a fake item  My issue is that I left the sale and it has now been out of my possession.

I do not want to meet this person again, and I have asked politely several times to leave me alone.

What's my options, if any?

Thanks

Phone the Police yourself and make a complaint about harassment. Keep copies of all communications and give them and details to the police

Thanks, I have explained to the person that this is a route I would need to take if they keep contacting me.

The circumstances surrounding this person made me feel very uneasy, and I would give the details here but I think I would get ripped apart if I said what made me feel uneasy.

To be honest I don't really want to involve police, but the messages, to be honest have got me pretty worried, things like 'picked the wrong guy', and I have asked politely a good few times to leave me alone.

If he does report this to the police are they likely to come after me? I don't want this hassle on my doorstep as I have done nothing wrong.

if you don't want to involve the police there is not much you can do, if the person has threatened you by text the police would be obliged to act on the information and at least warn him to keep away.

if he keeps on contacting you i'd just try replying that you have contacted the police, even if you haven't and try and bluff it, might just do the trick.

I think it may help people offer advice if they could build a better picture ie what was so strange about the chap?

Honestly if you're that worried just report the harassment to the police yourself. Hope you get it all sorted out.

    Thanks guys,

I would like to give a better picture I really would, but I really feel I would get flamed and start a big debate which I don't want to do.

Aside from his appearance, the way he said things made me uncomfortable, he said that I 'looked really nice' when we met, and sent me a text saying 'you know you looked really nice' after I had left, which I felt uneasy with.

I know that I would be in the right to contact the police, but what about him? Can he go and tell them I sold him something fake? (even though I didn't?) I've handed everything over to him now so I have no documentation etc.

If you're 100% sure that the item was 100% genuine, then you have nothing to worry about.

Can you not call your network provider and have his number blocked?

    Just ignore him.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If he produces a fake item to back up his story how can he prove that was the one you sold him? Isn't it his word against yours?

I assume from your attitude that he was a different race or ethnicity to you and you are worried about being accused of racism. I don't think most people here have such knee-jerk reactions.

I hope you have informed the police and are keeping records at this point. Are you?

I am sure, but now I'm thinking what if he has swapped it or something and I don't have any of my documentations etc.

Networks can't block numbers unfortunately. I just feel like I'm looking over my shoulder now incase he tries to find me or something?
