As this thread doesn't appear to be disappearing perhaps a gentle reminder of Martin's rules would be an idea
Be nice to newbies
Yes the OP asked a naive question and is worrying unnecessarily about something that may never happen but did you really all have to jump on her so thoroughly? Surely a simple statement pointing out that anyone could pass this on to her would have been enough
The OP will probably never come back to MSE and whilst some of you are probably muttering that it's no loss how do we know that she didn't have other knowledge someone might find useful on another board
rant over and dons flameproof suit:D

Oh Please!!!!!
It doesnt matter who the OP is, it is far more refreshing to see a thread like this giving a the proverbial kick up the backside than one which panders to irrational fears and reinforces them.
What reaction do you think you'd get if you came out with such a comment down the pub? Or in the office? Or anywhere come to think of it?
The response on this thread is pretty much what you'd get anywhere - so perhaps the OP needs to self isolate to protect from unkind comments?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

But you're not in the pub or office. You are on Martin's forum therefore his rules
I never said we should pander to the OP's irrational fears. All I stated was that you are all jumping on her for an ill-judged post. In case you missed it first time the gist of my above post was be nice to newbies and constructive comments don't need to be nasty0 -

I think you've missed the point completely, either intentionally or otherwise.
You seem to be feeling sorry for the OP because she is, lets say, outnumbered. I'm sorry but people are allowed to disagree and have alternative views.
And more to the point, Martin's comments are aimed at newbies to the world of moneysaving, who may make naive comments that they may not make in hindsight after hanging around here for a little longer.
Maybe you could stop trying to take offence/be defensive on someone else's behalf. I cant see who posted any 'nasty' remarks anyway.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

The OP was probably written by the person writing the article then, to give it more content.

"It seems that people who are selling or renting their houses are worried about visitors" - no you daft bint, it was ONE person who could possibly be you!!!!
Why am I not surprised... useless, misleading media!!:rolleyes:0 -

Most likely - it's fairly standard practice for those in social media to 'seed' topics. House buying/selling is a golden one to seed with a swine flu slant as anyone with a house for sale is already worried about prices so it's a great one for lumping another worry on to in an attempt to stir up paranoia.
I doubt the thread has gone the way they thought though, I expect they were hoping for mass hysteria with people taking their houses off the market or putting of a house purchase because of swine flu.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
