I have also had a few items cancelled because they are out of stock. I ordered Weds morning at about 7am and so far it is childrens wear that has been cancelled.
I find the marks and spencer sale so frustrating. I can't believe a company of that size has such bad systems in terms of dealing with stock, particularly during a sale. I also found it very difficult to identify which items they had cancelled from the order as the email confirming my order doesn't list the size ordered or the stock code.
Considering this isn't a new problem, I would have thought Marks and Spencer would have addressed it by now whether by upgrading their system or just by updating their stock information more regularly.MFIT No. 810 -
seems to be another thread about the M&S sale which isn't active so just copying and pasting what I wrote in there after speaking to someone at M&S on the phone:
I ordered 22 items at approx 10PM on 22nd July (when the sale prices started to appear)
I have been sent 2 emails informing me that items are not in stock
The person I spoke to told me only 5 of the 22 items are in stock
Apparently, the stock levels on the website aren't in real time, so , what looked like a good sale was in fact not.
I placed a 2nd order yesterday containing 5 items. Only 2 of them are available.
Having read above posts it's pretty shocking that they operate in this way.
Like Io07 my items were mainly young boys clothes. I had a go at the girl on the phone (not her fault but....) about the amount of my time M&S have wasted. If the system showed real time then I'd have gone to M&S early on Thursday morning and picked up a few things. Instead I had a nose at lunch time and saw one of the items that I'd "bought" for my son online the night before.
I may write to M&S and question how genuine a sale is if many of the items aren't actually in stock. Rather misleading when they're web site is displaying many items as in stock where they're not.
EDIT: Checked my account. 10 items have been dispatched from the 1st order. 3 items out of 5 remain in the 2nd order.0 -
M&S, Debenhams, and Boots - wouldn't you think one of them could employ an IT dept that could programme real-time stock control?
It doesn't quite work like that. Their IT departments wouldn't have developed their systems. They'll have bought in software as has been mentioned. The question you should be asking is why wasn't real time stock control a MUST requirement when purchasing?0 -
I now have ZERO chance of getting my order.
My credit card company have just called as there has been fraud on my account so they have declined ALL transactions including the legit M&S one.
My card is now cancelled.
If M&S had taken payment before today I'd have been fine.
Great.

Have you tried logging on to your order and changing your method of payment? If you do that before they try for the payment you might be ok.Clutterfree wrote: »I now have ZERO chance of getting my order.

Last Jan sale, I bought some soft toy Monkeys reduced from £5 to £3. After sale they went up to £7.50. (A huge rise!) Then a few weeks ago they went up to £8 and only last week went up to £9. Guesse what? In the sale, the original price was ripped off and was offered at £8. I thought this was illegal.
What a rip-off!0 -

Thanks yes I tried that (had to use debit card as I've only one credit card).
Wouldn't let me do it so had to call them.
They said it was because I'd chosen a nominated delivery day I wasn't able to alter online so they've now done it as standard delivery over the telephone - expected date 3rd August instead of 27th July!
Just logged in and they've charged me £3.50 for the privilege too!
Will fight for that back IF I manage to get anything.
Also now won't get Quidco as not done entirely online.
Not happy at all, but then I think it IS only clothes from a sale so I need to get a grip! lol

I've given up with ever ordering from the M&S sale as I have always been let down and end up spending ages on the phone trying to sort things out. I once ordered over 10 items and ended up having one delivered - school socks that weren't even in the sale!0

Not if it's been offered at the higher price somewhere - maybe it was just cheaper where you saw it than elsewhere. I doubt M&S would do false advertising/sale claiming tactics purely because it's a risk it doesn't need to take. And if you got them for £3 why are you so cross? You got a bargain! It's a happier life if you look at the glass as half full not half empty.Do not feed the trolls please.0
