They would know at least as much as you can see on your transaction list / statement, and probably more. The card network will also have data about the payee which you won't see. More importantly, the payee will know your details.0 -

The bank would know the merchant's details for the transaction, but they could not give you a list of all the merchants for which you had CPAs.0 -
chris-m, I reported them to BC, they sent me all the relevant form asking my permission to involve Police which I did. I have been refunded some of the money but not all.
Will check and call them on Monday and ask for an update.

Hello,
I signed up to an online subscription using my UK credit card. I paid the first payment of $97 to the US company yesterday, with the other eleven payments due over the the next twelve months.
After gaining access to the course, I discovered it was very poor and does not live up the the promises.
I want to cancel, what is presumably a continuous payment authority (CPA) agreement, however their order agreement states that I must pay a $300 cancellation fee. This cancellation fee was not in their order agreement when I was considering the product last month, but it is there now - my fault for not re-checking.
I don't mind losing the first payment of $97 but I do not want to lose $300. How should I go about cancelling this?
As I understand, I can contact my credit card company and request a block on the CPA. Then contact the retailer and cancel my membership.
Do distance seller regulations apply for cancellations within 14 days? I only made the payment yesterday.
Will I be liable for the $300 cancellation fee? How would the retailer go about reclaiming this from me? I'm in the UK and the company (In reality, I think it is a one man operation with very basic/vague T+C's) is US based.0 -
A US-based company probably couldn't give a toss about EU Distance Selling legislation. One of the few things that might get you out of this is a cooling down period. Do they offer that?
Best way of cancelling any further payments IMO is to close your credit card, or at least report it lost so you get a totally new card/card number. Hop over to the credit card forum to see whether anyone has any better ideas.

With the new rules in force, such drastic action shouldn't be necessary. Besides, as the forum story above shows, it's not guaranteed to sort the problem.
When you cancel a credit card, the account remains open for a few months to ensure there aren't any as yet unprocessed payments on the card. If the retailer is still asking for the recurring payment, this will count as a new payment coming in and the card company will ask you to settle it.
It's far better to contact the retailer or bank to enforce your right to have payments cancelled. Then you know that the issue is fully and finally dealt with.0 -
Cancelling/reporting a card doesn't stop legitimate CPA, at least for the nearest future.

Reporting a credit card lost, and getting a replacement one with a different number, has quite recently worked very well for me with a rogue hosting company that will not accept cancellations of the service. My credit card company is AMEX.
I appreciate that this might not work with debit cards but with credit cards it should work.
But as I said, credit card forum might be a better place to ask.0 -
