Nitpick:Recurring Payments. You give companies your card details
The key to Recurring Payments, known as Continuous Payment Authorities until a few years ago, is the company will ask for the long number on the top of your credit or debit card rather than your bank details. If this happens, you need to be aware an entirely different structure of rules come into play.
I'm fairly certain this number is the one across the middle of the card.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

No. Merchants are handled by their acquiring bank/card scheme, so their details will be held by them, identified by their merchant number.
There's no parallel to the Originator Directory for Direct Debits. What would William Shatner do?0 -
I ended up with this sort of payment (I didn't realise at the time and thought it was a DD!) I've cancelled the bank card (debit card) with the bank as I kept asking Karma Insurance to cancel my policy but they said they can't access my account (they've stopped doing insurance aparently and didn't notifiy people until after they lost access!
I was told to cancel through world pay (?!) I was never told it was going through that either - but as they wont provide me with a password & username I am unable to do that - I've tried contacting the new insurance consultants who are now dealing with Karma's (now ex) insurance customers but they have never responded.
I now keep getting messages that they are trying to take payment (several weeks before they are suppose to even if I'd hadn't canceled?!?!?!?) and I'm worried that I'm going to get charged for this and they could go to a debt collectors etc despite me asking them to cancel several times now.
does anyone know if this can happen or do I just 'forget' it as they can't take money from my account anymore - I've since taken insurance out elsewhere. (plus I moved house and the insurance was for my previous address - one of the reasons I wanted to cancel as they wouldn't change my address!)Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -

I set up what I thought was a DM for sky tv here in Spain and now when I went to cancel it I found it was a recurring payment and the company had been closed down by the Police. Bank don´t want to know.0

If the payments are being made on a debit card its being made using your 16 digit card number. Depending on which bank your with, they should be able to block your existing debit card and reissue another card with a new card number. Its a pain as you will be without a debit card for a week or two but this should stop future payments being taken.
As far as I am aware this situation is the same for credit cards. I work for a bank and have a lot of people complaining about reoccuring payments from AOL.
And be aware!! If you suscribe for any free trials they always take your card number. (there is a reason!) Once the free trial is up they will then take payments via your debit or credit card. Been caught out with Experian several times!!!0 -
Are payments still going? Bank won't do anything because its nothing to do with them. Card payments are between you and merchant. Say your worried about fraudulent activity and they should be able to block/cancel and reissue ure debit card with brand new card number. Once this done there is no active card for them to take payments from....?0
