Recurring Payments Warning! discussion

That's a very badly worded petition. For example:even if you object or do not give authorisation.
When in fact what happens is, (as the petition belatedly points out) you do in fact authorise them. The fact that you didn't realise that it was a recurring payment means nothing - you agreed to it.
If a company did indeed set one of these up without your authorisation you can in fact stop it, because it's what people commonly call fraud - and the banks are able to stop that (well as regards to CPAs anyway.)
I also wonder if the author had their shift /caps lock key stolen.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I once had a recurring payment set on my old current account, i never authorised such to be taken, and when i went to HSBC to flag this up, they said take the issue up with the company, HSBC were most unhelpful, and the company were cowboys anyway, it was for insurance in case i lost my job!She LEFT me, she LIED, and she made me foot the BILL ! :mad:0

Well done jace2000  for supplying the link.
The Petition only has a few 'Signatures' at present and we need to get many more if there is to be a positive outcome.
To that end I have made it easier for would be Petitioners to sign up by clicking this link:

I set up a Standing Order with the bank to run for 15 months and the bank got the completion date wrong. I paid 3 months as per instructed and then the bank stopped the payments 12 months early!
I have only just realised their mistake and am now in an embarrassing situation where payments have not been made - (this was not due to a lack of funds available).
Has anyone experienced the same problm and does anyone know if I am entitled to compensation for the bank's error?0 -
Standing orders have nothing to do with 'recurring payments' as meant in this thread.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I was stupid enough to let my husband (we have now just separated) use my debit card for recurring payments on 2 of his accounts. I was going to just cancel my debit card but according to this thread, this may not work. However, how can I contact the companies involved and ask them to remove my card details? Doesn't my husband have to do this as the accounts are in his name? Trouble is, he is refusing to. They refuse to talk to me on the phone as I am not the account holder even though it is my debit card details they are using. Will they acknowledge a letter from me and remove my card details? Feel a bit stuck and at the mercy of my husband!

Hi Sarah
As you are finding out this is a VERY Grey area of the financial world and it seems that it is a 'case by case' situation.
In your position I would contact the Financial Institution that have issued your Debit Card, asking what options are open to you. Do remember that they are all members of the same 'gang' and are unlikely to offer a simple solution.
Please do tell us the outcome as it may be valuable information to fellow sufferers. Best of luck.Regards,

I have rang my bank who say cancelling the debit card will make no difference and the payments will be transferred to my new debit card!
So the next step is write to the company who set up this recurring payment and say I no longer give authorisation and to cancel the recurring payment. I will send it by Recorded Delivery and demand written confirmation that the recurring payment has been cancelled. Then if any further payments are attempted I need to send a copy of the cancellation letter to my bank who will take it up for me on my behalf.
I do wish I had looked at these threads before I allowed a recurring payment to be set up. Now I must ensure I keep enough in my bank account in case the payment goes out as I do not have an overdraft.
I will post again when there are any futher developments - thanks for everyones help0
