Recurring Payments Warning! discussion

Just been told by Capital One that they cannot cancel what I thought was a Continuous Payment Authority.
This appears to be because it was used for "in-app" purchasing.
Seems very much like a Continuous Payment Authority to me. Has anyone else experienced similar?0 -
I guess this CPA is with something like google or Apple account, not with the company directly. If so, can you not just unregister your credit card from the account?0
-
I don't think it is. The payment was made via Worldpay.
My real point is that I don't see why the credit card company won't cancel it. The FCA's rules are clear enough. See

Sorry, as a new user I am prevented from posting a hyperlink or anything that looks like one.0 -

"Cancelling" CPAs is PITA for card providers. That's why they do their best to fob you off.
In fact they are incapable of real 'cancellation'. The best they can do is to keep refunding you after new transactions and charging back the culprit.0 -
If i ask my bank if i have any recurring payments attached to my account will they be able to tell me?0

I think you are confusing direct debits (bank) and continuing payments (credit cards).
Credit card companies don't have a record which is why cancellation causes them problems. The credit card companies cannot stop a merchant processing a payment. Instead they monitor all transactions for a number of years (until a new card is issued with a new security code) and reverse them if necessary.0 -

A CPA can also exist against a debit card.

No, they can't. Only the merchant has a record of the CPA.
The bank will have records of direct debits and standing orders only.
So lets say a recurring payment went out of my account today for £12 and i asked the bank who the payment was requested by or who it was sent to the bank would have no idea?0 -
I have also been stung by this con, but mine was through Credit card. I used it to try and renew my Road Tax, apparently some site appeared as DVLA, I filled in all the info and Card details, then it seemed the transaction was not going through. It did not renew. A few months later i noticed my card being charged 15, 25 pounds every month.
I notified BC, got some money back but still some cash needs to be recovered.
watch out, Police need to take action.
