In my local Tesco this afternoon I was told the 'double up' is only in units of £5.00.
This means in effect you can only benefit if you spend in units of £10.00
So if you wish to buy clothes for a total, say, of £7.50 (as indeed I did today) my only option was to give £5 in vouchers for which I got a £10 double up voucher.
I then would offer this in payment but NO CHANGE WILL BE GIVEN.
    This means I lose £2.50.
I cannot offer, say, £3 in vouchers as they will only double up in units of £5.00 (which produces a credit of £10).
So, beware, NO CHANGE will be given and NO CREDIT NOTE OR VOUCHER for the unspent portion.
I left the clothing with them as a matter of principle.
After all, if I can get 4x the value in rewards for any amount OF VOUCHERS, WHY IS THIS DEAL DIFFERENT AND HOW MANY PEOPLE REALISE IT IS DIFFERENT?

Extra points seen (by me- so there are likely more!) are

Olay, 400 or 500 points when you buy some items (the expensive ones)

Buy a dress and get 250 points.

Some perfumes are offering 500 points when you buy them- sorry, I really don't know which as they do not stock the stuff I like so I don't bother to look at them!

Also, there is a whole other thread on this:

See post #422, its got loads of stuff.

Tesco possibly thought clubcard deals were costing too much & this is a good way to limit their value while making it seem like a good offer.

Only people who read the small print?
Or previous MSE articles/threads which have mentioned this.

Another way for Tesco yet further limit their value.

I always use the vouchers to get wine - I think it's a great deal.
  • Hi, I work at Tesco and I know that you are 'supposed' 2 use ur vouchers in units of £5. That is what happens in our store anyway.
However I went 2 a different Tesco the other day and they put the difference of money from the voucher & my total spend, back on 2 my Clubcard in Clubcard points. Confused? C my example......

I spend £7.50 and double up with a £5 voucher, giving me £10.
Quite rightly as stated, u would lose £2.50.
The Customer Service Desk lady then put 250 points back on 2 my Clubcard, which would be the £2.50 I was short.
I didnt ask this lady 2 do this, I didnt know her, and she didnt know I worked 4 Tesco.
Maybe u should push 4 this at the CSD's in Store. I know im going 2 suggest it in my store.

Hope it helps.....Im going back there today, so if I can find any more out, i'll keep u posted :)

Now that's a better deal since the £2.50 was originally 125 points.
Shame you have to wait until next mailing to get the vouchers back. Could have been a nice little earner.;)

Clubcard deals or rewards as they are now known are still there. The double up process is a new thing. There isn't a deal that allows you to get double the value of your vouchers on wine instore, or clothing etc. Take deals if you want deals, double up if you want to double up, or just spend them if you want to spend them.
  • Am I missing something here?

On the offer it clearly states that the vouchers can be exchanged in multiples of £5.00 with any difference added back to your clubcard.

    So

£5.50 = £10 double up voucher with 50 points back to your clubcard

£7.50 = £10 double up voucher with 250 points back to your clubcard

    etc

Double ups on Wine, clothes, cosmetics and perfume (amongst others).

The Tesco in South Wigston (Leicester) doesn't have a Perfume counter... just a few reduced bottles on the odds and sods clearence stand none of which are on the points list. Gutted.

We have doubled up in several Tesco stores and they have always put the "change" back onto the club card for future use.

That is how I understand it to work.
