How do you know the OP has a 3 door car, that can have the seats all the way forward? I don't, and my 5 door certainly won't let me fold the seats down to get in the back. I assumed he did what he had to, not what he could do if he had a different car.
If I had a 5 door car I would do the same, squeeze myself in. I am sure that seats in 5 door cars can be moved fowards, just like they can be moved back to create more leg room.

I would expect to see parents and children outside a school, and not expect to drive past parked cars so close and so fast that I actually hit them.
Drivers with no patience and who expect to use any part of the road regardless of other users, just because they have a parked car on their side are a pet hate of mine as well.

I couldn't have put it better! I'll go further & say that anyone driving past a school at finishing time in heavy rain should be expecting this & drive accordingly. Why is noone throwing "driving without due care" at the muppet who hit the door??

All those posting on this thread know what it's like driving past a school & will have seen this situation more than once & will therefore (hopefully) drive cautiously, not steam down the road like a moron!

Just to refresh your memories, the OP's question was......

Any idea why he would WANT to involve the insurance? I appreciate it keeps it all legal and correct, but i would have been happy with getting a quote for the damage and if it was too much for them THEN involve the insurance, but if it is only say £50 to repair?????

That doesn't read "Can I have all opinions on my wifes actions, preferably from the most self righteous members of the forum please" does it?

Why not leave out all the crud & just answer the mans question?

because you dont run these boards,

Nope I don't but someone should!!

and i have an opinion about the matter.

Yep you do & that's the problem. It's an opinion that doesn't answer the question asked in any way, so why post it?

it may be a problem on here to you but the point in question is a very real problem which as we have seen could lead to a serious accident on our roads.

so in offering advise about how silly his wife was in way we are trying to protect her and her children and anyone else who collects thier children from school that feels because they have kids the rest of the world should stop until they get them in or out of thier seat when traffic is passing when they could have used the other door.
i see it very often and i really cant understand what is going through the heads of the parents when they do this.

Aah right I had noticed that

So you, or anyone else, can post your opinion freely?

It doesn't matter that it's not actually giving any advice related to the OP's question?

I appreciate what your saying but it happens &, I'm not going into the rights or wrongs, we've all seen it...... outside every school!! I know it, You know it so why is everyone jumping on the OP when it's the other driver needs educating?

School at letting out times is a dangerous place & if you don't expect this situation then........

Still doesn't answer the question of why the thread is so full of posts so eager to criticise but yet not answer the question?

The turkey in the car going past should be driving more carefully?
And to be fair, your advice was rubbish really. Putting the car seat on the nearside isn't much use if you have two children, unless you get one to sit on the others knee. The OP already said the one child had got in, and she was putting in the second. So you have to have two seats, one on each side. He didn't even say which way the car was parked.
this is a pet hate of mine, a bit of forward thinking rather than assuming everyone else should accomodate your wifes lazyness. and when something happens like this its someone elses fault.

put the kids all in the car from the pavement side, keep the child seat at the nearside of the car,so it is easier to sort them out. why risk taking your most valuable possesion onto any kind of road then mess around with a door open. and similarly, dont put the seat on the nearside of the car and then park facing the wrong way on the road.doubly stupid.

but in reality the guy driving past too fast or close will loose his liscence and might get a fine or short jail sentence, but you on the other hand could loose your child. regardless of what someone else should be doing, you should be on the look out for yourself and your own. do what you can to protect your kids, dont rely on others to care about them.
