My travel insurance is free! :j

When I got myself an Alliance & Leicester current account,

Could any of you tell me please, do you have to pay certain fee per month to get free annual travel insurance from your current account? After reading the above articles, I called my Barclays Bank & they told me that my current account at the moment is a standard a/c & if i wanted to have all those freebies (1 yr unlimited travel insurance, breakdown cover, etc) I have to pay £13.00 per month!!!

    Hi

The reason I didn't mention A&L is that it ended its free travel insurance offer about 7 months ago. Those who signed up before hand still get it but its being downgraded to European rather than worldwide cover (and to pay to upgrade isn't that cheap). It used to be in the article

As for other accounts giving it, they all have a fee (spit spit spit yeuch, total waste of money in most occassions) which means I wouldn't consider them - the fee is usually MUCH more than the insurance would cost.

And bluebell, I hope you dont think im being mean, welcome to the site, I promise im spitting at fee paying accounts not at you :)

When did this happen, I have not received anything about this change, can A+L make a change like this, I find it real unfair, almost to the point I may change bank accoutn for.
  • Try Tesco or M&S they cover you up to 32 weeks, assuing you're back by the 32 week mark.
    Hi,
I'm going to France with my wife and son this year. My wife will be 30 weeks pregnant be the time we return (we're not flying) can anyone recommend a good deal because most of the ones I've looked at wouldn't cover her?
    Thanks.

My girlfriend and I went to america last september when we arrived there my suitcase had two large slashes down the back and the corners were badly damaged, but my girlfriends seemed to be okay. We visited the rep and she wrote out a report and a claim form i submitted this with the claim form i received and they said i should not have put a lock on it, i never said i put a lock on it and i did'nt but my girlfriend did and all they did was cut the lock off and put a note in her suitcase as to why but did no damage, when we got back to manchester from holiday the handle fell off. I had only had the suitcase for twelve months i bought it when we went to america the year before and had no problems, it was only the second time i had used it. It was worth at least £180 but all i claimed was £60 and they said no..
  • I am brand new, please be patient if this has been covered. I haven't been able to find any info on the subject of travel insurance for longer periods. My husband and I spend up to 6 months in the US during the winter. Usually we do three months before Xmas, back for the festivities and then a further 3 months. Any advise please?

Like ppauline 1515, we (husband, myself and 11 year old) will be spending 6 months in New Zealand and 1 month travelling back to the UK. So we are looking for 7 months family travel insurance. All Insurances found so far charge a high fee for every extra day over 30 days. Can anyone make any suggestions please?

try a backpackers insurance company they offer long insurance times at good prices, one i know off is https://www.gotravelinsurance.co.uk but backpackers seem to go for months at a time so probably best bet is search for them on internet

Picked up insurance for 2 weeks in Europe with the excess on the policy reduced to zero for £29 which was through Sainsburys insurance and you also get nectar points with the insurance (not sure how many though)

Last year Egg had a special offer for Egg credit card holders (recommended at the time by Martin) of European Annual Family cover for £15, which I took up. This years renewal was double this at £30, but still a bargain compared to the cheapest providers in the updated article (and it includes up to 17 days winter sports cover). :D

I had the £15 policy which expires in June. Just received a reminder from Egg, hoping the price would be the £30 mentioned above.

Have just been on their website for a quote....... and it's gone up 600% to £93. Coupled with them charging 2.5% on BTs (free until recently) that's a bit of a savage increase. I'm sure the policy is good value but......

The article suggests £26.50 is the best annual policy. That's now increased to £27.75, and https://www.primaryinsurance.co.uk are cheaper at £15.75 .

    Am I missing something here?
