  • With regard to the 17 day limit for Winter Sports the Insurer/Claims handler should have an appropriate question on their claim form relating to days away. Yes all claims handlers should always request evidence of travel e.g. Flight tickets/Booking invoice. Obviously a 20 day trip is easy to spot but multiple short trips much harder unless the appropriate question is asked.

Please remember that the very basis of Insurance is that of "utmost good faith" and Insurers need only to find one area where you have not acted so, to treat the claim as taineted and be able to decline cover.

With regard to the 30 week pregnancy, most Travel Insurances restrict cover to 28 weeks in agreemnet with Airlines. They are very strict on this because of the ever increasing medical ability to sustain life at earlier and earlier stages. Whilst I know you are traveliing over land the same will apply. The reason is that the "birth" is an inevitability - it will happen. The problem is that no one could be definate about when only approximate. Travel and it's associated consequences, lack of sleep, being in cramped spaces for long periods, excitement etc. etc. can be a good stress maker increasing the possibility of premature birth.

If you do manage to get someone to cover you, make sure that they will also provide cover for the baby/babies should they be premature because if no premium has been paid or cover provided, you would be responsible for the uninsured baby/babies! Both medical expenses and repatriation.

Most Travel Insurances are much of a muchness. Whether they are offering £1 million, £5 million or £10, million inmedical expenses does not matter you will not reach the £1 million as you will either no longer be with us or believe me they will send a jet to get you!

It is important to remember that you are only covered for emergency treatment under any travel insurance

A lot of travel insurance will exclude personal baggage cover which should be covered under most household insurances in any event.

All limits are per person, so Cancellation cover applies per person e.g. £1000 x 4 = £4000 and not for the entire booked trip.

Most claims fail because the insured has not complied with the policy terms e.g. no police report, money not on your person or in a safe etc.

The very best insurance to obtain from a previous medical history point of view is one that will cover everything. The next best if you can't is to declare everything and have them specifically decline what you have declared. That way breaking a leg etc. will not pose a problem!

    Hope this helps!

My husband has a serious lung problem, we have paid very expencive insurance for travelling abroad, a few weeks ago someone told me about age concern insurance (my hubby is 57), we got a very very good policy for £37 for a weeks holiday in Turkey, i will definatly get his insurance through them again. It was so easy too, we went to their office and a nice person there gave him a medical screening (asked quite a lot of questions) then gave us the quote, and he was fully covered for his illness.
  • In just a few weeks I am of to Australia and New Zealand with the intention of doing lots of silly and potentially dangerous sports. The trouble i'm having is while there are a few specialist insurers I don't know of any of the companies and so don't feel entirely comfortable. Any recommendations?

Last time I checked my annual policy with Nationwide www.nationwide.co.uk , it said you were covered for some hazardous activities as long as they were a on-off and not the main reason for the holiday, eg jetskis and parascending. It listed the activities that were covered.

I haven't read it for a while so you would need to read the policy wording or call them to confirm.
  • Hi can anyone help ? My wife and i have an annual travel policy which runs out on the 11 th Jan 2008. We are traveling again in December returning from South Africa on 18 th Jan 2008. I have asked our insurer , Primary , to extend the policy by 7 days as we don't plan on traveling again after that rather than pay for another full year but this seems to be a problem and they will be ringing me back tomorrow to see what they can do . Has anyone encountered a similar problem ? I would have thought that at least they could sell us single trip policies which start as the other ends ? Update. No one rang back ( surprise surprise ) So i called again tonight, got a much better and very helpful lady who checked things out. No they couldnt extend the yearly policy by a week ( didnt think they would) they could only offer a single trip policy starting from 27 th Dec , effectivley meaning i'd pay twice and the cost of that was £76 ! Considering they annual policy was £ 97.60 it wasnt an option. I then got her to quote for an exstension of the annual policy and it came it at £79 ! £ 18.60 cheaper than last years , thanks to her giving me the online discount even though i was phoning. Great customer service , well done Primary. Looks like i may have an exscuse for some more trips now :-)

Can anyone spot an age limit on the capital one card travel insurance? Unless of course the application doesn't accept over 65's. There also doesn't seem to be anything about pre-existing conditions eit
her, unless I have missed it.

I have raised the above issues with Capital One,after carefully reading their travel insurance booklet. They confirmed it applies world wide, has no upper age limit, nor is there any need to disclose pre existing medical conditions. There are just a few a few medical conditions it will not cover.

One of the main drawbacks as far as I can see,is that if you have to cancel your holday before it actually starts, due to a pre existing medical condition, then you are not covered, and will not get any money back that you have paid .You are covered of course for medical treatment, once your holiday has commenced
  • Hi

Any ideas about a good deal for back packing insurance for one year in Australia/New Zealand? I just don't know where to start looking.
    Thanks.
